This was recently highlighted in the case of Larry Emdur, an Australian television personality and recent Gold Logie winner who needed legal protection following a concerning incident.
The incident unfolded when a man, identified as Rodney Pearce, allegedly attempted to gain access to the Channel Seven building in Sydney's Eveleigh office on Central Ave.
‘Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended and spoke with a 52-year-old man who had been escorted from the building by security,’ New South Wales Police’s statement said.
NSW Police were called to the scene around 11:15 am on 22 August, where they spoke with Pearce before arresting him.
Pearce was subsequently taken to hospital for assessment and then to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with trespass and possession of a prohibited drug.
To safeguard Emdur, the NSW Police issued an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) against Pearce on his behalf.
The following court proceedings saw Pearce granted conditional bail at Downing Centre Local Court with specific stipulations.
He was ordered not to enter Central Ave, the suburb of Haymarket, or come within 200 meters of Channel Seven.
Additionally, he must report to Redfern Police Station daily.
The AVO protecting Emdur is scheduled to be mentioned in court on 16 September.
This incident shocked many, mainly since it occurred just days after Emdur's triumph at the 2024 Logies on 18 August.
Emdur, who had expressed doubt about winning his first-ever Logie nomination, even made a tattoo pledge in the lead-up to the award show.
True to his word, he followed through with the pledge, getting a tattoo on live television, with his co-host Kylie Gillies and the audience witnessing the moment.
‘He's actually shaking'.’ she said.
Network Seven has not commented on the matter, which is currently before the court.
In other news, Larry Emdur reacted humorously to an early morning social media headline: ‘Larry Axed.’
The headline referred to Twitter's plans under Elon Musk to replace its iconic blue bird logo, named Larry, with an ‘X’ last year.
