Embarking on a journey of enduring youthfulness and robust health is a quest some undertake, particularly as they progress into their golden years.

However, at the heart of the tree of life, someone has spotlighted a superfood emerging as an anti-ageing champion that's been on people’s shelves all along.

Bryan Johnson, a multi-millionaire biohacker, has been on a quest to slow down his ageing process for the past three years.

He has tried a variety of methods, some of which he admits are 'crazy'.

However, there's one particular food that he swears by and consumes daily.

This superfood, he claims, has been instrumental in his anti-ageing journey and has helped him reverse his age.

'The question I get most frequently is, "Give me the one thing I can do in my life"—because you're busy, you have stuff going on and you don't have the team to do all this,' Johnson explained.

The secret ingredient? Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).

Johnson, 46, believes that this oil is the ultimate anti-ageing food that everyone should incorporate into their daily diet.

He even launched his own brand of olive oil as part of his Project Blueprint, retailing at $60 for two bottles.

According to Johnson, EVOO is not just a flavour enhancer that adds 'spice and fun' to his meals, but it's also a potent health booster.

Johnson also revealed consuming a tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil with every meal, every day.

'When you eat it causes damage in your body,' he explained.

'I recently learned it myself, and so EVOO is protective against that damage.’

'These studies show improvements in weight management, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, heart health, brain health and mood.'

'The scientific evidence is compelling, [and] extra virgin olive oil is in an elite category,' he claimed.

However, not all olive oils are created equal for Johnson. He emphasises that the oil must be extra virgin and adhere to strict standards to reap its health benefits.

He compares consuming good-quality EVOO to eating high-quality chocolate, highlighting the importance of choosing the right product.

‘Chocolate is a well-known thing that's good for you, but that might lead you to eat a Snickers bar—which is not a good thing,' he said.

Johnson also pointed out that it's 'high quality'—if it's dark chocolate, undutched, tested for heavy metals and has a high polyphenol count, then chocolate is very good for you.

'But if not, then don't eat the Snickers bar,' he advised.

'The same with extra virgin olive oil—you need [to meet a] whole bunch of other criteria.'

Johnson's anti-ageing regime goes beyond just consuming EVOO.

After spending $6 million in total to slow down the natural ageing process, Johnson claims to have turned back the clocks by five years.

His regime includes consuming 80 vitamins and minerals a day and eating 70 pounds of pureed vegetables a month.

He also has a meticulous skincare routine and tries to minimise his sun exposure by venturing out only in the early mornings or evenings when the UV index is low.

However, Dr Selina Wang, an olive oil expert and Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California-, Davis, suggests that store-bought olive oil can be just as beneficial.

'I don't see anything on this list that's different from other fresh and good quality EVOO with a cheaper price tag,' Dr Wang said.

Dr Wang added that the levels of oleic acid (linked to heart health) was 'average' in Johnson's in comparison to others and recommends buying (any good) olive oil that is 'fresh' and 'consuming it as quickly as possible to get the health benefits'.

According to Heathline, extra virgin olive oil is fairly nutritious and contains powerful antioxidants, as well as strong anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and fight Alzheimer's disease.

'At the end of the day, quality extra virgin olive oil is incredibly healthy,' they wrote.

'Due to its powerful antioxidants, it benefits your heart, brain, joints and more. In fact, it may be the healthiest fat on the planet.'

Johnson's dedication to his anti-ageing journey is certainly commendable.

However, it's important to remember that while EVOO has numerous health benefits, it should be part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Always consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet or lifestyle.
