Discover Coles' new 'epic' feature that will change your shopping game

In the ever-evolving landscape of Australian supermarkets, Coles has taken a bold step to redefine the grocery shopping experience with an 'epic' new feature set to tantalise the taste buds of food enthusiasts.

Shopping isn't just about ticking items off a list; it's about the joy of discovering new flavours and enjoying quality products that make our everyday meals special.

Coles Local in North Sydney has just unveiled a feature that promises to do just that, and it's giving Woolworths and ALDI a run for their money.

The new in-store pasta bar is a culinary haven for pasta lovers.

With over seven different sauces, the options for customising your meal are nearly endless.

The pasta bar offers four types of ravioli—portobello and porcini mushroom, spinach and ricotta, beef and vegetable, or roast pumpkin and grana padano—each promising a burst of flavour and a gourmet experience.

For those who prefer traditional pasta, variations of linguine and fettuccine are also available.

But the customisation doesn't stop there. You can elevate your pasta dish with premium add-ons, such as mascarpone cheese, gourmet feta, fior di latte, or other cheeses.

There are green olives, artichokes, fresh and marinated octopus, and more to add a touch of Mediterranean flair.

‘This gourmet pasta range is inspiring our customers in North Sydney and is available in 20 Coles Local stores across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland,’ a spokesperson said.

‘The pasta is produced in Melbourne by Alligator Brand, a pasta maker that has been manufacturing pasta for over three decades.’

‘They use only the best produce, such as free-range eggs and durum semolina from Bellata, NSW, to create a high quality, delicious pasta with an excellent bite.‘

‘The filled pasta also utilises local and seasonal ingredients such as Victorian Wagyu, fresh Buffalo Mozzarella and Manjimup Truffles from WA, as well as premium Aged Grana Padano and Pecorino Romano from Italy.' ‘

The process is simple: select your fresh pasta, weigh it, package it using the provided materials, and pay at the counter.

Coles Local stores are designed to be more than just a place to shop; they aim to be a neighbourhood hub, a community gathering place where shopping is an experience.

‘Customers want us to make their lives easier, and this store offers our customers the convenience of a supermarket with the range of a specialty store,’ Coles CEO Steven Cain said.

Alongside the pasta bar, shoppers can indulge in hot bread from the bread warmer, single-serve ice creams for summer, self-serve mochi, macarons, and gelato cones for dessert.

There's even a pet section with treats for your furry companions.

The products at Coles Local are carefully curated to match the needs of local shoppers.

Coles CEO Steven Cain emphasised that Coles Local's format is tailored to local tastes and preferences, offering the convenience of a supermarket with a specialty store range.

The store boasts an extensive vegan and vegetarian range and over 350 lunch and dinner options that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less.

The Coles Local in Rose Bay, which opened in 2020, is another example of this innovative approach.

It featured premium sourdough bread and sweets from Sydney stalwart Sonoma, Southeast Asian delights from Roll'd, and pastries from traditional French bakery Noisette.

In other news, supermarkets like Coles are leveraging digital radio stations to improve the shopping experience.

Their selection of upbeat and catchy music may encourage customers to linger longer and make more purchases. Learn more about it here.
