Did you know that hot cross buns are available all year round? They just look a little different…

There's no denying that hot cross buns are one of the most popular seasonal treats. Many people enjoy these delectable treats for their sweet and rich flavour. They are best known for their characteristic cross adornments on top.

And while they're usually enjoyed during Easter (for obvious reasons), did you know that they're available at supermarkets all year round?

No need to take a double look, folks! While some people might be outraged at this, it turns out that the buns are actually sold all year round - just without the cross on top.

A Baker at Woolworths has let us in on the fact that these buns are sold every day, but they're cross-less and simply called 'Spiced Fruit Buns'. And apparently, they don't sell nearly as well without the cross.

So if you're one of the thousands who cannot wait for another year to get your Easter hot cross bun fix, you can head down to your local supermarket and pick up some of the spiced fruit buns. You won't regret it!

Speaking of Easter treats, did you know that Easter eggs arrive on store shelves earlier than usual so they can be kept cool in the air conditioning of the supermarket?

Yes, that's a fact, folks! An insider from Woolies disclosed that the eggs are delivered early so retailers can keep them refrigerated inside the stores since the supermarket back docks are too sticky and warm for them.

There you have it, folks! The revelations in this article prove that you can enjoy seasonal treats all year round! Though, we are a little sad to learn the ‘Cadbury’ chocolate hot cross buns and fruitless buns are not available throughout the year. Alas, we’ll have to wait until next year.

What are your thoughts on this? Better yet, have you tried 'crossless' hot cross buns? How was the experience?

Also, if you're looking to make your own hot cross buns, we recommend checking out this recipe.

The easy recipe uses just a few simple ingredients and can be on the table in just over an hour.

For the buns, you'll need:

- 8 hot cross buns
- 40g soft butter
- 100g marzipan, cubed
- 3 tbsp chunky marmalade
- icing sugar, for dusting

For the custard:

- 300ml tub double cream
- 600ml milk
- 4 eggs
- 100g golden caster sugar
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla essence

Method:

1. Heat oven to 170C/150C fan-forced
2. In a saucepan, gently simmer the milk and cream. With a fork, combine the eggs, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl. Add the warm cream mixture gradually after that.
3. Slice the buns in half, then cover with butter. Place in a sizable shallow ovenproof dish (about 25 x 32 cm), top with marzipan, and drizzle marmalade on top.
4. Pour the cream mixture on top and leave it to soak for 15 minutes. The buns should be pressed into the custard mixture as it softens.
5. Bake for 50 minutes or until set; remove from oven and let it stand for 10 minutes. Lightly sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and serve while still warm.

Hot Cross buns are in store the week after Xmas. I think it takes away from a treat that is associated with Easter same as Xmas decorations set up in October. All a selling gimmick
