Did this 'Oblivious Lady' Ruin a Beach Wedding? Join the Heated Discussion–Was She Wrong or Not?

Cory posted to social media a video of an uninvited guest trudging through the ceremony on a stretch of beach. In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 1.4 million times, viewers can see the bride waiting to walk down the aisle with her bridesmaids by her side. As she prepares to move forward, an oblivious woman–who is wearing a black bathing suit, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses with a towel draped over her shoulders–marches across the aisle from the opposite direction.

The exchange has sparked a discussion–some blaming the oblivious lady, while others claiming the couple were to blame for choosing to have their ceremony in a busy public space.

One side of the debate said that the woman was at fault for not respecting the wedding party, with one user saying 'I get that it's a public beach but that lady in the beach hat could have patiently waited for the wedding procession to pass.'

Another user added, 'People can be such j****! I love that the bride said something to her.'

On the other hand, some argued that it was the bride and groom who were to blame for hosting the ceremony in a public space.

One user commented, 'Still trying to figure out what she did wrong.'

Another user said, 'They don't own the beach because they're getting married.'

If you're planning a special celebration or any public event on a beach in Australia, it's essential to be familiar with the laws and regulations. Much like the couple in question, you might consider the beach as a wedding destination, but it's always best to ensure you're maintaining common courtesy and respect for all beachgoers.

Most of Australia's beaches are public land, managed by local councils or other groups, with laws varying depending on the council's specific rules. However, concepts of respect and consideration remain universal.

Generally, hosting such events usually involves obtaining a permit–especially if large numbers of people are expected. You'd also need to be mindful of restrictions on certain activities–alcohol consumption, for instance, is usually prohibited or restricted.

One beachgoer said 'Living on the beaches of Gold Coast, we see a lot of celebratory events and, yes, some do cause inconvenience to regular beachgoers. But most people hold these events with permission, ensuring minimum disruptions.'

Furthermore, to avoid potential misunderstandings or issues, it is recommended for couples or event planners to put up temporary visual cues or measures to inform other beachgoers of their special event.

So, before you make the sand your stage or the sea your backdrop, understanding the laws around holding public beach events in Australia might save you from a potential 'oblivious lady' scenario of your own!

So what do you think dear members–who is to blame for the mishap? Would you consider the Australian coasts as a great setting for a wedding? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!

There were no barriers alerting people that a wedding was in progress. Beaches are public spaces, and I was waiting for the incident, and it was over in a blink, I mean, she wore sunglasses, towel and hat, all acceptable clothing for the beach, so where was the Emcee, taking a dip?

It's a public beach. The bride etc should put up with such 'intrusions'. Talk about being entitled!

Get over it. It's not like the lady walked through the wedding while they were at the alter. it looked like she got blamed for just walking past the bride at the walkway onto the beach far before the spot the wedding was happening at.
I don't see what she did wrong.
I'm more impressed that someone actually got married outside of a church for once - Kudos on what looked like a lovely peaceful setting.

Honestly from looking at the photo and video, it appeared to me that the lady in question was trying to work out how to go behind the bride but when she realised there wasn't enough room to do so she just walked around them. Surely the bride could have moved a little further forward so as to leave a clear pathway behind her therefore allowing anybody wanting to get through the space to do so without interrupting her wedding. Shit like this happens when you are selfish enough to believe you are entitled to do as you please in a public setting such as getting married on a crowded beach.

Well, all I can say is that the bride and groom will have something to look back on that made their wedding SPECIAL. Good clip to show the grand children and have a laugh about later.
It's hardly a tsunami washing out the service.
This reminds me of a time I went shopping with hubby. There I was chatting away, stopped to look in a window, then grabbed hubby's hand and kept walking, and chatting. Only thing was I grabbed the hand of a total stranger. I was completely unaware that I had done it until the man said something (with a laugh). It was funny. I suppose one might say I was having a moment. Not as serious as a wedding, but still funny.
Patience is a virtue goes both ways.

Well from looking at the video there was no wedding ruined or even interrupted. The woman in the beach hat walked behind a queue of people apparently blocking the walkway, walked round a man and a woman in a white dress and stood to the side. At no time did she disrupt the wedding or even the bride's walk to the celebrant. So what is the problem? Choose a public space in a very busy area then be prepared for uninvited people to cross your path.

Why pick a busy beach for a wedding? Couldn't they find a beach with few or no people? Besides the bridezilla was about 50 metres from where the ceremony was to be held and blocked the path for other beachgoers! What an entitled b*tch of a "bride"!

Cannot see she did anything wrong. As the people were so spread out, how would she know what was going on? Maybe they could have had a sign up. As the beach is for all public & she went nowhere near the actual ceremony!

What is the fuss about, they were only standing there and she walked between them, if you don't want interruptions then don't get married on the beach or go to an area which isn't by a walkway. How absolutely petty, she didn't walk through the ceremony. She is NOT at fault, they are.

The spoke to the woman and though you could not hear what she was saying, I guess it would not have been very flattering.

Common courtesy should have prevailed but, perhaps the intruder had no idea what was going on......on the other hand the beach is for everyone unless there are signs of restriction.
