The co-host of The Morning Show, Larry Emdur, shared his amusing encounter with a rather alarming early morning social media headline that caught his wide-eyed attention–‘Larry’s axed’! We know what you're thinking, and we assure you, it's not what it seems.
While discussing a major decision by the social media company Twitter with his co-host Kylie Gillies, Emdur mentioned the unusual headline. The television personality was reading about the planned change of Twitter's iconic blue bird logo when the peculiar caption made its appearance online. The Morning Show correspondent Tim Lister revealed that Twitter's new billionaire owner, Elon Musk, plans to overhaul and replace the famous symbol.
Lister explained, 'This, in keeping with Elon Musk's tenure at the social media giant, has stunned many onlookers'.
He went on: 'Simply emerging as tweets overnight, Elon Musk announced that he plans to scrap the trademark bird that we've all come to know and associate with Twitter and replace it with an “X”.'
It seems that Musk intends not only to launch rockets but also to transform Twitter into something more than a social media platform. According to Mr Lister, his vision includes morphing the application into a multi-purpose platform that includes banking and enhanced messaging capabilities.
This sudden decision to remove the famous bird, symbolising Twitter as it’s widely known, has shocked many, especially those in the advertising world.
Musk's approach to public participation has been unique. He has asked Twitter users to suggest an 'X' logo. If he likes it, the new logo could go worldwide over the next few days.
Pausing to take a sip of his morning coffee, Emdur dropped a surprising fact. 'Did you know the bird's name is Larry?' he asked Gillies in jest. The revelation allowed a good-hearted laugh for us here at the SDC.
The chirpy news led to early morning confusion while reading the Twitter reports–the headline ‘Larry axed!’ could easily be misconstrued! Emdur, maintaining his sense of humour, said, 'So when I saw on social media this morning “Larry axed!”, I thought “Ooooh. That escalated quite quickly!”'
Gillies responded, 'Not like you haven't read that plenty of times before,' to which Emdur, the ever-sporting host, replied with a genuine laugh, 'Yeah, I’ve read that plenty of times before!'
So, dear members, there is no need to fret! Unless you love Twitter’s bird logo, Larry, I guess this is relatively sad news. At least Larry Emdur’s job remains safe!
