Deborra-Lee Furness responds to split rumours amid doubts about her marriage to Hugh Jackman

We hear about celebrity break-ups all the time, but sometimes, it feels like these well-known stars are more like family to us, and their marriages are a part of our own lives.
That's why when reports of the much-loved Australian couple, Deborra-Lee Furness and Hugh Jackman, splitting after more than 27 years of marriage, surfaced recently, it saddened and shocked fans worldwide.
One such fan of the couple was KIIS FM radio host, Kyle Sandilands, who took it upon himself to make a call to Furness to get some clarification about the reports. He was joined by his co-host Jackie ‘O' Henderson.
However, it turns out Sandilands had mistakenly ‘cold called’ Furness without realising it.
It was clear he was embarrassed when Furness answered, asking, 'Hello' and he followed up with a ‘Hey Deborra’, only for her to respond with a ‘Yes?’.
Sandilands and Henderson were quick to assure Furness that they weren't intending to 'stitch her up' and that they just wanted to wish her well and let her know that they were thinking of her.
Sandilands said, ‘We’ve actually called you by mistake. It’s ridiculous…’
To which Deborra, light-heartedly replied ‘How ya doing?’.
'Now I just feel it’s too soon. We don’t want to get involved in anything. But love you and you ring us when you want to chat,' Sandilands said.
'I don’t. Thank you, guys, really appreciate it,' Furness responded before adding, ‘Bye, darling’.
For now, Furness and Jackman have issued a joint statement to People, saying, 'Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.’
‘Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.’
‘We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.’
Their statement was signed, ‘Deb and Hugh Jackman’ and concluded as: ‘This is the sole statement either of us will make’.
The statement indicates that the couple's split is civil and that the two are committed to putting their family first.
After news of the split broke, a new theory surfaced regarding its timing.
US broadcaster Cooper Lawrence was recently interviewed on Sunrise and shared her theory regarding the timing of the split.
She said that Furness and Jackman were ‘waiting until the kids were old enough’ to no longer need child custody or legal representation for support, which meant the couple were now free to separate on civil terms.
Interestingly too, Lawrence had noted that rumours of a split began swirling on the Broadway scene after the couple sold their three-storey New York apartment.
The couple have two children, Oscar (23), and Ava (18)—and Jackman has since come out and told paparazzi that it is ‘a difficult time’.
