My grandparents loved my date bread, and then hubby loved it. I have two recipes I want to share .

Ingredients
- 1 cup dates chopped
- 1 cup brown sugar lightly packed
- 60g butter
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 3/4 cups self-raising flour sifted
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 2 tsp vanilla essence
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180C or 160 C fan-forced
- Put chopped dates and sugar in a bowl and then add sliced butter.
- Pour in boiling water, stirring until butter has melted completely.
- Add sifted flour and then bicarbonate of soda, mixing well. Add vanilla and mix
- Pour into a well greased loaf tin, and bake in oven for 45-50 minutes.
Cool on wire rack before storing in an airtight container
