Dan Murphy’s pulls out popular drink after “non-compliant labelling” incident, advises against consuming the product due to possible intoxication

Dan Murphy's has issued an urgent recall on one of its popular drinks on Thursday.

In the company's statement, it was said that a batch of Pre-mixed Kahlua espresso martini cocktail cans had been labelled incorrectly and is now being pulled from the shelves of Dan Murphy's and BWS stores due to fears of increased intoxication.

The cans, which are sold in packs of four, were also available for purchase at IGA stores and independent retailers nationwide.

Dan Murphy's explained that while the labelling on the cardboard wrapping around the cans was correct — the alcohol by volume (ABV) figure is correctly stated to be seven per cent — the labels marked with “Lot code 1277” incorrectly understate the (ABV) figure to be four-and-a-half per cent.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said that the mistake could possibly lead to intoxication.

The group said: "The non-compliant labelling means intoxication may be caused, along with subsequent illness or injury if the drinks are consumed."

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand also advised customers to not consume any Kahlua espresso martini cans that they have purchased and encouraged them to return the products to the store of purchase for a full refund.

Stay safe out there, folks!

It's a nice change to see a company show responsible diligence in regards to the sale of alcohol, as well as being compliant with liquor licensing laws.
