Dairy disaster: Supermarkets recall popular milk brand from shelves

Before heading out for a routine grocery trip, customers need to take note of this warning from Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
The a2 Milk Company issued an urgent recall on one of their popular products.
The company recalled the a2 Light Milk 2L due to a potentially dangerous contamination.
In a statement by a2, bottles of the said milk were contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes are commonly found in refrigerated food products such as deli meat, seafood, dairy, and produce.
When consumed, it could cause listeriosis.
Listeria monocytogenes are particularly harmful for pregnant women, newborn babies, seniors, and anyone with a weakened immune system.
Despite being particularly harmful to select groups, listeriosis can still affect anyone.
Common symptoms of listeriosis range from fever, headache, and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, it could also lead to severe complications.
The recall targeted a2 Light Milk 2L bottles with the use-by date 06/06.
Recalled bottles of milk also had a product number of #41.
These milk bottles were sold exclusively in major supermarkets and independent grocers across Western Australia.
'Consumers should not eat this product,' FSANZ firmly advised.
'Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.'
FSANZ also reiterated that individuals who have consumed the said product may consult a healthcare professional for advice.

This recall was not the only food product that made headlines recently.
Protea Foods Pty Ltd also pulled two of its popular snacks, Lekker Biltong Slices Traditional (100g) and Lekker Biltong Slices Peri-Peri Chilli (40g).
The recall was due to mould contamination from a packaging fault.
The affected products were sold in Coles NSW, independent retailers in VIC and WA, and online in WA.
The affected products had batch numbers 08 0804 or 08 0904 and an expiry date of 11/01/2026.
On top of the a2 Milk Company's recall, Aussies were warned of an upcoming milk shortage and potential price increases due to devastating floods across northern NSW.
The floods, combined with ex-Cyclone Alfred and drought conditions, could cause a significant drop in milk production nationwide.
