It's me again. Yet another scam to report. I don't know why I seem to get so many, but this one really frightened me! I was on my computer when all of a sudden a pop-up appeared and my computer was frozen. The pop-up stated it was from Microsoft support and that my IP address had been used for contacting some questionable sites. I tried to close the pop-ups down (there were about three I think, one on top of the other), but they just kept on popping up!!! The top one very kindly gave me a phone number to call with multiple warnings NOT TO SWITCH OFF MY COMPUTER OR I WOULD RISK PERMANENT DAMAGE!!!! I rang the number and it was immediately answered by a man who claimed to work for Microsoft. I informed him I was not happy to speak to someone who could in all probability be the one who orchestrated my problem, after all the phone number I rang was provided by him. After listening to him ramble on for a few minutes I just interrupted him and told him that every time I had ever been or attempted to have been scammed it was always by someone with his accent and I was terminating the call. I hung up and switched my computer off. I waited for a few minutes then switch my laptop on again with no apparent problems, and then looked up Microsoft support and phoned the number provided by Google, only to be told by Microsoft that they no longer provide anything except an online address to report suspected scams. I went to the address provided and must admit it is very user friendly and I had ample opportunity to give all the information I had. I have not heard back from them, but I have reported it and am advising as many people that I can of this new (to me anyway) scam. Please be super vigilant. If it smells fishy it probably is....
