Customer's brutal review of limited-edition Coles buy leaves a bad taste in mouths: 'An Australian disaster'

As any true blue Aussie knows, Vegemite is a national treasure. We put it on our toast, in our sandwiches, and even with chocolate...
So you can imagine the excitement that ensued when Coles announced they would be selling Vegemite roast chicken from November 11. That’s right – chicken infused with everyone’s favourite savoury spread!
Coles partnered with Bega to offer the unique Vegemite-infused chicken complete with Bega cheese stuffing. The announcement was met with both shock and delight by Vegemite fans.
In fact, one man who goes by the TikTok username ‘Russ Eats’, was not so impressed after taste testing the $13 dish and took to social media to share his review of the product.
Russ claimed that the chicken had 'pretty packaging' but lacked the Vegemite flavour.
He said: 'There is no f*cking Vegemite flavour at all. It's just a barbecue chook with pretty packaging. I'm giving it a one out of 10 because it's offensive to Vegemite, which is offensive to Australia.'
Russ's negative comments came as a surprise to many fans of the savoury spread, many of whom were excited to try the new offering.
Well, if you think the foodie's critique of the chicken was already harsh, his review of the stuffing was far more lenient... He gave it a rating of 5.5 out of 10.
'This (the Vegemite chook) received a 1/10 for the lack of effort and pure disappointment. They didn't taste bad as BBQ chooks are a delicacy but given their lack of effort, they don't deserve the price,' Russ added.
'Overall, do not bother. Do not give them your money because they do not f*cking deserve it until they start putting some effort into food. This is an Australian disaster.'
In a twist of events, Russ' harsh comments about the dish have actually piqued the interest of other consumers.
One user who seemed to have misunderstood Russ's comments said in the comments section of the TikTok video: 'Wow… it looks delicious.'
'What could possibly be wrong with Vegemite and cheese with chicken? Sounds pretty good to me,' another user added.
A third chimed in: 'Roast chicken coated with Vegemite is great; I've been doing it for years.'
Others have even indicated that cooking roast chicken with Vegemite is nothing new.
'I saw a shelf like this and assumed they were hinting that Vegemite can be used in different recipes. My grandma, the best cook ever, used to put it in her vegetable soup,' one person wrote in the comments, and another affirmed that she has been doing the same since she was a kid too.
A Coles spokesperson expressed their desire to bring happiness to the customers by providing something they had never seen in stores before.
'A little-known secret is that adding Vegemite to foods is a great way to enhance savoury flavours,' they said.
In previous years, Vegemite has also had some issues with their customers over the new products they have come out with.
Last month, jars of the iconic spread were given a 'refreshing' makeover, but were met with fierce criticism from customers.
The new jars featured the brand's logo and the name of potential recipes printed inside a red diamond on the front of the jar, where the traditional label previously had the word 'Vegemite' printed.
The jars didn't do it for some Vegemite fans, who expressed their disdain on Reddit.
Even though several customers complained about the new labels, Bega said the reaction has been 'overwhelmingly positive'.
A spokesperson for the company said: 'We wanted to give Vegemite a refreshed and modern look to reflect its versatility and growing relevance to today's breakfast tables.'
'We've had really positive feedback about the new look Vegemite jars. We're really pleased to see shoppers loving the new design.'
