Cremorne St Bakers Choc Cross Bun Cookie Review: ‘Not Happy, Jan!’
- Replies 6
Maddie and I were so excited when we spotted this jar of Easter cookies at Coles that we spent an exorbitant amount of money on it. After all, we always want to support local Aussie businesses, and we're willing to pay to support local.
We really wanted to love it, but it surprised us. But, in a way, I’m still glad we did try it. I’ll explain in a moment.
First off, I’d love for you to guess how much this jar of cookies cost because I’m almost certain you’ll guess incorrectly. I know the cost of living is rising, but this one surprised even someone as jaded as me.
The answer will be revealed in a moment, but first, let’s hear from our taste testers.
Taste Test – What Did We Think?
Maddie:
Don’t waste your money, I’m no baker and I could make better cookies / hot cross buns then this! Quite sweet, but honestly would not rave about it.
Just goes to show that the more expensive price tag isn’t always better!
1/10.
Ash:
When did a cookie masquerading as a hot cross bun deserve to command a $26 price point? It's not even a good cookie.
Not happy, Jan.
I also can't figure out what flavour the icing is supposed to be. White choc? Strawberry?
Jon:
6 / 10... Nothing special, and quite expensive. Very crumbly – not in a good way.
Just seems like a bit of a marketing gimmick – a normal average cookie with an iced cross painted on it and marked up for Easter.
April:
And what did I think? DRY.
This is insanely lacking for the price. You’re better off piping a messy cross onto literally any other biscuit, and it will be nicer than this.
Skip it. It was also way too sweet that it gave me a headache.
Just, no. 1/10.
The Price – Is It Worth $26?
So, why am I glad we spent nearly $30 on this?
Well, members, I would be absolutely devastated if anyone I knew purchased this, including you, members.
In our opinion, it was absolutely NOT worth the money. $26 can pay for an ENTIRE meal (more if you’re being thrifty).
As I said earlier, we really wanted to like this, but considering all factors, it's a tough price to agree with. Right now, you can get a six-pack of hot cross buns from Coles for $4.40; it's hard to compete.
The Cremorne St Bakers Choc Cross Bun cookie is even pricier on their website—$28 vs. $26 at Coles.
The description claims: ‘A delicious spiced chocolate cookie topped with raspberry flavoured icing, inspired by the famous Belgium Biscuit. It's a chocolate twist on an Easter favourite and sure to be a crowd-pleaser.’
Our entire office agreed that there was nothing spiced about the cookie, nor was the icing raspberry. I mean, look at the colour difference of our photo vs their website…
Verdict: Is the Cremorne St Bakers Choc Cross Bun Cookie Worth It?
No. At $26 (or $28, depending on where you purchase it), this cookie is overpriced and underwhelming. Our team found it dry, overly sweet, and lacking the advertised flavour. Skip it and save your money for a real hot cross bun.
And, to Cremorne St Bakers:
We’re sorry for the negative review, but what on Earth has happened here? Did we get a bad batch? Feel free to slide into our inbox; we are very open to hearing your response…
Members, have you tried this luxury Easter cookie? Was your experience the same? Drop your review in the comments! Did you love it or regret it?
Also, what are your thoughts on throwing a cross on something that is in no way close to a hot cross bun?
