Craving a seafood fix? Woolies luxury range prices slashed in time for Christmas

The festive season is almost here, which means it's time to start planning your Christmas feast! And if you're anything like us here at the SDC, you might be starting to feel the pressure of holiday preparations – especially if you're hosting this time around.

If the budget is a little tight this time of the year, don’t worry. We've got some good news – Woolworths has announced that it is discounting several of its luxury food items in the lead-up to Christmas.

From tomorrow until December 27, 150 items across the supermarket's luxury food range will have their prices cut or locked in at the same figure from 2021.

So, if you're planning on serving up a feast for mates or family this holiday season, now is the time to stock up.

One of the most popular seafood items on offer is WA rock lobster, which will be discounted to $27 this year. If you want to add a touch of luxury to your holiday meal, this is the way to go!

In addition to the WA rock lobsters, Woolies also slashed the price of Australian Crystal Bay cooked tiger prawns – which you can also get for $27 per kg. The Superior Gold smoked salmon also received a price cut; it’s $1 cheaper. While it might not seem like much, every dollar really does count these days.

Meanwhile, classics such as Woolworths’ brie, half-leg ham, whole seasoned chicken, bonbons, and Woolies’ pavlova base have all had their price tags locked in at last year's prices (before this inflation rollercoaster).

Additionally, Woolies will also sell its Odd Bunch range (aka fruits and veggies that don’t fit the normal ‘standard’) at 20 per cent less than the normal shelf price of the respective products.

Natalie Davis, the Managing Director for Woolworths Supermarkets, said that the retail giant knows that their shoppers are looking for ‘great value’ when it comes to entertaining their loved ones during Christmas.

‘As today’s Fresh Food People, we are focused on ensuring we have the best Australian fresh products available for the Christmas table, and that customers can get their Woolies’ worth as they manage the impacts of the rising cost of living on their budgets,’ she said.

‘Though our price commitment to hold last year’s price on customers’ favourite Christmas classics including Woolworths half leg ham and pavlova, as well as adding 150 seasonal essentials to our Christmas prices dropped program,’ she continued.

‘We hope that it will help all our customers focus on the little moments that make the season special to them.’

Woolies’ Christmas season price drop is in addition to their Spring program, which will run until the end of November.

I'm not interested in the seafood, don't eat it. I wish they had the half leg ham cooked in the deli that we could get ready sliced. There is no way I'd get through a half leg on my own but a few slices would be great.:)

I did an online shop a couple of nights ago and couldn't believe that 250g of Woolies butter was $6.00. Perhaps they should bring down the price of the basics. I know i like to make biscuits for my neighbours as Christmas but won't be at this price.:( Maybe I had better see what Aldi charges.

I buy a ham....slice it myself, pack it into usable amounts and freeze it....it works out much cheaper, you enjoy really nice ham for Christmas and the leftovers last for the rest of the year! And the bone goes into pea and ham soup in the winter. 👍👍

When will these prices start??? Last time they announced these 'specials ' every time I went to buy some, sold out! Then I found out they all only got a small number and if you weren't the first shopper in the door, there was none left. 😢

I am sure I have seen leg ham slices in the Deli??
Yes..but if you like ham, and eat it often, and work out the price difference, add the extra savings at Xmas time...it has been worth it for me 👍 plus a pot of soup

I also can't believe the price of butter...and we all know it's not the farmers getting these price hikes!

There's prob a reason for that... get you in the door so you will spend up on other things (just like KFC's $1 deals). This type of advertising should be banned, or shoppers should react by not buying the expensive items, (supply & demand?)

Sorry Liz,
Where are you doing your Woolworths shopping?

I've checked WW website,

Woolworths 250g butter, $3.45, Woolworths 500g, $6.00

Lynette,

Not sure if you're talking about Woolworths, or Aldi?

Did you know you can phone and preorder seafood from Woolworths, or Coles?

Woolworths and Coles receive their stock deliveries usually daily, whilst Aldi receive theirs every 2-3 days

Cheezil,
Why should this advertising be banned?

ALL stores using this type of marketing to entice customers into their shops, eg supermarkets, clothing stores, hairdressers, fast food, retail shops, etc!!

Why do retailers produce "sale brochures", when they're used only to entice you to shop with them?

Lynette,
You don't need to order these seafood items online.....

ring the store, ask for Deli Department, tell them what you want to buy, when you want to pick it up, they can wrap it, hold it for you, and you pay when you go to collect it from the Deli!!

If you go into Woolies deli section and order what you want to be picked up just prior to Christmas they will keep it for you. Has the added advantage of not having to store it yourself if you don't have a big freezer.
