Crafty woman repurposes abandoned IKEA storage boxes into game-inspired side tables: "Pretty amazing!"

With the help of this creative and straightforward upcycling project, a crafty DIYer has breathed new life into two Ikea storage boxes that she discovered abandoned by the side of the road.
By giving one of the boxes the appearance of a die and the other of a chessboard, Annika was able to turn the boxes into multipurpose side tables, both of which are going to be used for storing her games and her chess pieces.
After finding two discarded Ikea storage boxes on the side of the road, Annika first used them as makeshift bases for her coffee table. But after purchasing a proper coffee table, she later needed to find a new purpose for the two storage boxes.
After seeing tiled side tables becoming increasingly popular online, she decided to do the same with the boxes, covering them with some leftover tile pieces before painting the game patterns on them.
While Annika did not specify which Ikea storage box was used for the project, it appears that the boxes were from the Eket range.
Each Eket cabinet with doors measures 35cmx35cmx35cm and costs $45. These boxes have a spring-loaded door that opens and closes, making it easy to open even if you glue tiles on top.

This is how she made the box that was inspired by the die!
She painted all of the tiles white and used about two layers of white spray paint for the first box. She then glued the tiles with liquid nails and began sketching some dots on the side. She ended up tracing these circles with the top of her coffee cup and then filling them in with black house paint.
Instead of using an exact die pattern, Annika painted the box differently to avoid having just one dot on top. She also struggled to fit six dots into the circle template she was using.
Annika then applied a clear sealant to the paint before grouting the tiles.
Next, she crafted the chess-themed box, which, in reality, doubles up as a chessboard that Annika can use to play the actual game.
Instead of going with a more conventional approach for this piece, Annika decided to give it a playful hue by painting the white tiles in a soft pastel purple. After that, she painted the chessboard design using white home paint.
She remarked that this one came out to be really lovely, and she really loves it.

Annika's game-inspired side tables have been well received by her followers, with many citing her upcycling projects as inspiration for their own.
"I am inspired by your creativity," said one follower, with another adding: "Thank you for these wonderful ideas!"
"This was so wholesome and relaxing, I loved it! And the boxes turned out pretty amazing too. Good job!" said a third.
It's a well-known saying, but "one man's trash is another man's treasure" is particularly applicable here.
What are your thoughts, members? This appears to be a fun DIY project that can be completed with the grandchildren over the weekend! You can even play games with them afterwards...
