Crafty mum turned these $7 Kmart buys into beautiful home decorations!

One mum from Brisbane was on her usual shopping run at Kmart when she spotted one of the retail store’s latest offerings – the $7 Rattan Look Handles that come in packs of two.

The pairs of accessories come with screws attached at the bottom and are usually used to replace old and rusty cupboard or drawer handles. And they look amazing, too. Very chic!

That’s why when Michelle Rhodes, the creative mind behind the popular Facebook page The Bargain Hunter, saw the rattan-look handles, she knew she just had to bring them home and create something with them.

So, she came up with two clever hacks making use of the accessories: a decorative storage lid and a stylish wall hook.

To make the stylish food canisters, you will need:
First, you have to detach the screws attached from the rattan handles. Then create a flat surface at the bottom of the handle. You no longer need the screws but keeping them is worthwhile, you never know when you might need them for some added DIY!

Then add a small dollop of glue at the bottom of the handle, and quickly attach it on top of the canister lid. Press down firmly to secure, and leave the glue to dry overnight.

“I love the new look on the lids – I think they look pretty cute styled up in the kitchen!” said Michelle.

As for the wall hooks, you will need:
This hack requires a bit of woodworking, so we advise getting someone to help you if you don’t feel confident yourself!

The first step is to make sure the piece of wood is smooth and has soft edges, so use the sander or sandpaper to smoothen it out.

Then with the measuring tape and your pencil, mark out four evenly spaced spots on the plank of wood. These spots are where you’ll be placing the handles.

Now use the drill to punch holes through the wood. Make sure that they are the same sizes as the screws provided with the handles!

Now all that’s left is to attach the handles and you’re done.

Her Facebook followers praised her for the ingenious hacks, saying she’s clever for finding other uses for the accessories.

Michelle was pretty happy with how her little Kmart projects turned out, and said she “might have another idea up her sleeve”.

And when she shares those ideas, we will be there to check them out. Do you guys love the rustic beach vibe that this hack brings? Let us know in the comments below!

That's all very well, but last time I looked they were and are as far as I know, KNOBS....

Knob - a rounded lump or ball, especially at the end or on the surface of something.

Handle - below is a Jute Handle...$18 a pair

That is so creative Michelle. I think there is a real talent in looking at something and using it in a completely different creative way to it's intended use. And as for the rude, knitpicker Halona who cares if YOU differentiate between knobs and handles. It surely doesn't matter to the brilliance of the idea!!
