Courier tried to rip me off!!

I recently paid $55.00 to send a boxed parcel via courier to my sister, who lives interstate. Three weeks after the box had been delivered, I received an email from the courier company claiming that I had measured the box incorrectly and that $130.50 was outstanding. They suggested I forward them a photo of the box to verify its size! Who takes a photo of a cardboard box before sending it?

The box contained a present for my sister, which I purchased online and then forwarded to her. I emailed the store from which I made the purchase and got their measurements of the box (as they had provided them to their courier to deliver it to me). My hubby, a retired truck driver who has measured a fair few articles in his time, helped me measure the box. I KNOW the measurements I provided to the courier were correct!!

Yesterday I emailed the courier company pleading my case and assuring them that I had no intention of paying any more for the parcel. A couple of hours later, I received an apology email from the couriers stating that some third-party couriers did try to get more money from customers in this way.

In our busy day-to-day life, where some people send multiple parcels, how many customers would have been invoiced for extra and have just paid the money? The courier companies would be making a fortune. BEWARE, people!!

Good on you for standing your ground, @kimmyg! Especially since $130 goes a long way these days.
