Couple reveals hack on how to get the whole row for yourselves when travelling

Even though thirteen is deemed an unlucky number, it has positive uses too.

Chelsea Dickenson, who runs Cheap Holiday Expert, posted a simple hack on TikTok to bag the whole row on a plane. Imagine having three seats just for you and your partner.

“This actually works!! Row to yourself travel hack,” said the caption.

The trick is to book a window and an aisle seat on row 13, leaving the middle seat free. The theory being that passengers are less likely to reserve a seat in between two strangers. And by booking row 13, people can make use of the superstitions surrounding the number.

Since then, the TikTok video has gone viral with over 260,000 views.

Chelsea, together with her boyfriend James, filmed the video last week on a British Airways flight in which the couple is en route to Corfu.

The video starts with Chelsea recording her boyfriend, looking visibly thrilled as they have the whole row to themselves.

Once they heard the announcement that boarding was complete, the travel experts proudly declared that they “bloody smashed it”.

“Having the whole row to yourself is just that extra bit of comfort - in fact, it's exactly the same space you'd get if you were flying in British Airways business class offering for Europe, so it's a great way to get the most for your money,” Dickinson tells MailOnline Travel.

She also added that it feels safer travelling when you’ve got more space to yourself, especially now in these ‘socially distanced’ times.

Another tip she has is to set an alarm for when check-in opens for their flight to increase their chances of securing their preferred seat location. The back of the aircraft, as well as row 13, are usually less crowded.

Yes… done this many times over many years …( where have you been??? ) and sometimes it works!!! If the flight’s fully booked, you just have to hope you’ve got in, in time. I think most people do this .

Well I'd never heard of this, but alas flying days are over. One danger comes to mind is that the seat between you gets taken by er an overweight odour challenged person... lol :ROFLMAO:

You are clever! I never would've thought of this. But I think it's also because I rarely ever travel with a partner.

My hubby and I both like aisle seats.....when people see us chatting across the aisle they ask if we want to swap seats....S**t no this is how we like it

I don't know how you deal with people constantly wanting to push past you though!

I would rather get up to let them out than try and push past them. Did you know the aisle seat armrest comes up so you only really have to swivel around into the aisle to let them pass. I don't sleep much in planes so this works for me and anytime I need to visit the ladies room I don't need to wake anyone up to get there...except the aisle sleepers that hang from one side to another hahahahahaha
