Couple finds mouldy container inside ‘brand new’ Kmart microwave

A pair of shoppers were left disgusted by an unsettling discovery inside their supposedly brand new Kmart microwave.

The couple realised that their appliance had already been used by someone else when they opened the microwave door to find a container seemingly filled with a repulsive collection of green mould.

The shopper shared a video of the foul find on Facebook, recalling how her husband found out about what was inside.

“My husband purchased this microwave from Kmart. When he opened it and went to use it, he found a mouldy food container in it,” she wrote in the caption.

“Absolutely disgusting and so unhygienic. I can’t believe Kmart wouldn’t even check the state of a product when it’s returned.”

Her husband can be heard in the video, saying: “This is my brand new microwave from Kmart. All-new and still has the stickers and everything on it.”

“Opened it up, and that’s what’s inside it,” he said, showing the white container with dark greenish contents.

“Obviously, someone’s returned it, and they’ve not taken their container out.”

Fellow Kmart shoppers have seen the video and responded, with some saying they would also be frustrated given the nasty situation.

“Gross! Kmart should look into this because it’s so wrong,” wrote one person, while another said, “They should not be selling second-hand stuff as new.”

“I’d take that back and put in a huge complaint. How disappointing and disgusting,” a third person suggested.

Others shared their similar experience of being disappointed with their Kmart buys, with one woman saying she once purchased a new food processor that was coated in oil and smelled of curry.

Another shared: “I got a cordless vacuum from Kmart with no charging cord, and it was full of dust and hair.”

However, some Facebook users came to defend Kmart, saying that it would be difficult for staff to check every returned item thoroughly.

“It might have been returned and probably sealed back in the box; customers do dodgy stuff, and staff don’t have the time to be checking,” said one person. Another agreed and added: “Some customer has probably sealed this up and told staff it’s not been taken out of the box.”

Kmart is yet to respond to the issue.

This is so awful! Let’s just hope the couple managed to return the second-hand item to Kmart. What would you do if you were in the same situation?

This is repulsive. How hard could it be to check the condition of the microwave before reselling it. They can certainly afford to hire one extra employee for this if necessary

Probably an example of someone returning the microwave saying they "never even opened the box" and got their money back, because they'd found one cheaper elsewhere......
