For many of us, it's important to start the day with our favourite cuppa.
It's a comforting ritual that feels as natural as the sunrise.
However, a recent announcement from a popular retailer may put some of our morning routines in hot water.
Home and lifestyle brand Country Road issued an urgent recall of a popular mug due to a severe manufacturing defect.
According to the recall, The Two-Tone Demm Mug may break when filled with hot liquid, causing the base and body of the mug to separate.
This alarming defect can lead to burns, lacerations, and scalding.
The recall affects mugs purchased between November 1, 2023, and May 24, 2024.
Country Road urged customers to immediately stop using the mug and return it to any Country Road store for a full refund or a replacement mug of a different design.
'Contact us via email or phone if you cannot return the product, or if you have sold or gifted it to another person,' Country Road added.
The retailer cooperated with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to ensure consumer safety.
As of writing, the Two-Tone Demm Mugs are now unavailable at the Country Road online store.
The recall sparked a flurry of social media activity, with consumers expressing their concerns and sharing their experiences.
'Both my two-toned cracked when filling from a kettle ages ago, and one navy cracked in the microwave with milk in it,' one customer wrote.
'I emailed CR both times, zero response! Not good enough.'
'Mine did this the other day. I was going to contact CR about this as it was so dangerous,' another customer shared.
The issue is not isolated to the Two-Tone Demm Mugs, as customers shared similar problems with the retailer's other mugs.
'This happened to me last night. The brand-new mug was only used twice, and I had just poured a hot tea, and it poured out all over the bench! It wasn't the two-toned mug, but the plain Demm mug,' a third customer said.
This incident reminds us of the importance of product safety and retailers' responsibility to their customers.
It also highlights the need for consumers to be vigilant and proactive when reporting potential safety hazards.
If you've experienced any issues with Country Road mugs, report them to the retailer immediately to prevent harm to yourself or others.
