Could this strange method be the best packing advice yet?

Packing for a holiday is an art form – one that a lot of us struggle with, especially when space is tight or you’re just naturally an over-packer.
After all, no one wants to get stuck on what to wear due to a lack of preparation or go over the weight limit and resort to paying hefty baggage fees.
But one woman thinks she has the perfect technique for packing a suitcase, and her advice is garnering some serious attention online.
When it comes to packing for a holiday you want to make sure that you fit as much as possible in your suitcase. So, when a traveller shared her unique hack to help you do just that, it had people ‘freaking out’.
Niya Esperanza, a TikTok user from the US, demonstrated her ‘incredible’ suitcase-packing hack to her 400,000 followers. She claimed that the trick lets people fit as many clothes as possible into their luggage.
‘It has saved me so many times,’ she captioned.
‘I do not understand how this works, I don’t understand the physics of it. But it melts my brain every single time,’ Niya said at the start of the video.
‘And every single time I show it to people, they’re like “no way, this is literally incredible”,’ she shared.
The woman said that the first thing you have to do is find a big item of clothing. For her demonstration, she chose a brown jumper. Then, she laid it flat inside the suitcase.
‘You’re then going to pile everything else on top of it and lay it flat. Not fold it, just lay it on top like it is being ironed,’ Niya explained.
In her video, Niya filled her small suitcase with a lot of her clothes, such as multiple pairs of pants and jumpers, and claimed that she still had ‘space left’.
‘Then you take your bottom item, and I don’t understand why this works, but you take your bottom item and you fold it over,’ she said as she pulled part of her bottom item towards the top garment, effectively folding it over all the clothes on top of it.’
‘It’s still going to be able to be compacted down to be zipped,’ Niya claimed. Because the clothes are now folded, there was extra room for more pieces to fit inside the suitcase.
While her packing method seemed ‘intense’ at some points during the video, it does work if you’re too pressed for time to choose the clothes you want to wear or to fold the clothes neatly inside your luggage.
Although Niya only wanted to provide people with another way to pack for a holiday, many of her viewers remained sceptical over her methods. Some said they were ‘anxious’ about her packing method.
‘Rolling and packing cubes, those are the hacks. Sorry, this gave me anxiety,’ one shared.
‘I make sushi rolls out of every outfit, I packed 20 outfits for a Europe trip in a carry-on,’ another explained.

This method of packing involves laying the item of clothing out flat and then folding the bottom two inches of the garment inside out so it creates a type of pocket along one side of the clothing.
From the opposite end, roll the item tightly until you get to the ‘pocket’ you’ve created. Fold one side of the pocket over the roll and secure it tightly. You can also watch the video below for a step-by-step tutorial:
‘I promise you; this is not a hack. I’m sure if you rolled or used packing cubes, you could’ve gotten in more,’ someone else wrote.
Others said that they don’t have any problem with her packing method but with the weight restrictions for luggage that airlines have.
‘You can fit as much in it, but it might be too heavy to bring,’ one stated.
‘I don’t have a problem with packing, I have a problem with overweight luggage. Give me a solution please,’ another responded.
If you always fear that you’ll overpack or get worried about luggage weight restrictions, a solution that we have for you is to build a travel capsule wardrobe.
What this means is you have a collection of basic, functional clothing that won’t go out of style and are compatible with the rest of your wardrobe. Now, it seems a bit technical at first, but it’s not at all difficult to create.
First, you need to pack light pieces that you can layer, and simplify your colour palette so it’s easier to mix and match. For instance, a travel capsule wardrobe may contain:

- For women, 2-3 blouses and for men, 2-3 button-up shirts for dinners or formal events
