Copperart

Does anyone recall Copperart? It was a household name in the ’80s and ’90s, with TV ads you couldn’t miss and bargains that filled Aussie homes with everything—from brass vases to those iconic touch lamps with the glass panels. Whether it was a Dust Buster that’s still going strong, battle axes on the bedroom wall, or a gift for Mum, Copperart had it all. Some say their nan practically lived there!

I have a coffee mug that my late mother bought for me, we were looking at a table of mugs at Copperart Macarthur Square, one Saturday and one caught my eye in my favourite colour burgundy, I remember it was $2.50, when I wasn't looking mum bought it for me. This mug became my work mug and came with me to every job I ever had over the years until I retired, mum has been gone 20 years this month and I still have the mug and is still used today.

I had the biggest argument with one of the area managers at Copperart. I had ordered a ‘love seat’ for my son and his partner for Christmas and they promised delivery in time So I paid for it. Then they rang and told me it wouldn’t be until after Christmas as there were none in the whole state of Victoria. I went shopping a few days later and there in the window of the Copperart store was the seat they told me wasn’t available. I was NOT happy! I got on the phone and gave the manager a serve, she had been very patronising and rude during our first conversation plus blaming her staff in store for the problem and they were actually the helpful ones. Anyway, she had no choice but to get the one out of the shop delivered - just in time for Christmas. Funny thing was they sent me another one a few weeks into the new year. I was very tempted to keep it but that’s not me and I rang them to come and collect it.

Ah! Copperart!

Every couple of weeks they had a "liquidation sale", only to be resurrected from the ashes, phoenix style. Went on for years!

Just like Nick Scali whose sales "Must end Sunday!" Every f**king Sunday! For over a decade!
