Controversial Macca's meal prep trick by a mum goes viral: ‘I’m speechless’

Everyone, parents in particular, know how meal times with children can be very challenging.

It’s safe to say that many a mum or dad has given up when their child is fixating on a single food item and will take nothing else, at the risk of a tantrum.

But as the saying goes, why beat (not literally, of course!) them when you can join them?

One savvy mum has been causing a stir online after revealing her unusual meal preparation for her kids—which involves a popular item from Macca’s.

Se Fordree shared her handy (or controversial) tip on social media. In the video, she showed that she purchased McDonald’s chicken nuggets for her child, adding that it’s 'the only thing he’ll eat.'

’I just got 80 chicken McNuggets from McDonald’s, and I’m gonna freeze them,' she said.

The mum then showed how she put all the nuggets into a Ziploc bag and placed them into the refrigerator.

‘The reason why you put them in the refrigerator for one day is because … you want it to cool down before you put it in the freezer so they don’t stick together,’ she explained.

She mentioned that she puts the bag of sauces in the refrigerator, too.

Later, when her child is ready to eat, she’ll take the nuggets out of the refrigerator and reheat them in the microwave ‘on high for one minute and 30 seconds’.

‘I usually do 10 of them at a time,’ she shared.

Se’s video ended with a clip of her child dipping the nuggets into the sauce and eating it.

Social media users have mixed reactions to the mum’s meal prep trick. Some argued that the mum’s approach of freezing McDonald’s nuggets was unhealthy, with one person even commenting in disbelief, 'You lost me with the microwave.'

‘When I was a kid, I ate what mum made or didn’t eat at all,’ another wrote.

Amid all the criticism, Se assured that her child ‘doesn’t eat them ALL the time’.

Other people were more supportive, with one person stating, 'Thank you for creating a safe space for your child to eat whatever he wants to! Fed is best.'

‘What a mum will do to make her child happy,’ a fourth person said.

Some commenters even shared their suggestions to improve Se’s technique.

One person suggested 'buy the cheap ones from Walmart and put them in a McDonald’s container' to give the illusion that they’re 'real' McDonald’s chicken nuggets.

‘If you order it through the app you can get 20% off if you spend $5 (USD) or more it’s under rewards!’ another pointed out.

I had a niece stay at my place who wouldn't eat this, wouldn't eat that.
Her parents let her have her way and prepared a separate meal just for her, different to the family.
When she was staying over at my place, I said, your dinner is here, if you don't want to eat that, then that's it until breakfast. Hardly a mind boggling choice.
She lasted for an hour and asked for food. So I got her meal out of the fridge and warmed it for her. She ate it.
You have to remember who it running the household. As far as buying a supply of nuggets is concerned, no way would I resort to that just to get the kid to eat. Something is not right there. I think it may be a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Then, it would be the responsibility of the parents to look into any issues there may be. A toddler is usually trained to eat using their hands for touch, their nose to smell, their mouth to bite and taste.
If they can only eat one thing, then it should be looked into. If they prefer junk food, then that should be addressed. I haven't overlooked anything. I have seen it, asked the questions and dealt with them accordingly.
My experience in my situation was that the parents did not want an argument and gave the child junk food, drink, and whatever else she said she liked. If there is a medical condition, then I am aware of it before having a child stay overnight. It's a given.

My kids - “eat it, or you will get it for breakfast”. It worked, but one of them still will not touch beans and reluctant to eat too many peas. Middle grandchild (boy) loved eating raw beans! I was a ‘single mum’ to 3 with my husband a marine engineer at sea for up to 4 months at a time & I didn’t have the time or patience to go through all that nonsense. All 3 eat almost anything and everything now.

Obvious medical issues need attention (but not pampering) and this mum’s seems to be giving in to a pampered boy, not one with a medical condition. She obviously has a lot of money to buy 80 nuggets from McDonalds at a time.

And no common sense😢

What she is doing is destroying her kid's health. For starters, inform yourself what goes into chicken nuggets (absolute rubbish) and the process of making them (loaded with chemicals). To reheat the oil that they were cooked in, you convert to trans fats which are harmful for the body. She is slowly killing her child with LOVE. Ignorance is bliss!
