Company installs ‘laugh detectors’ to boost workplace fun​

Swiss insurance group Baloise thought of bringing a little fun to the workplace by appointing a 'Chief LOL Officer' to improve job satisfaction. This AI-powered role listens for laughter—or the lack of it—among employees. If things get too quiet, perhaps due to stress or too much actual work, the system sends a nudge via email. The message includes a curated dose of internet humour: whether it’s a classic cat video, a clumsy scooter mishap, or other light-hearted clips.
