Comedy legend Steve Martin makes a drastic announcement about his future

There comes a day when our favourite TV personalities decide that it’s time to step away from their esteemed acting careers. For comedy legend Steve Martin, that day isn’t too far off.
Hollywood actor Steve Martin recently revealed that he is ‘not going to seek’ any more acting opportunities, adding: ‘This is, weirdly, it.’
The 76-year-old American actor, who has been featured in hit films and series for over five decades, said that he’s taking retirement under consideration after the third season of his Hulu series, Only Murders In The Building, wraps up.
In an interview, Mr Martin explained that it was becoming difficult to stay in the game at the back-end of his career.

‘There’s a time in your career when people are dying to see you… Now is the time in my career when I’m the one who has got to show up.’ he said.
The highly acclaimed entertainer continued: ‘When this television show, Only Murders In The Building, is done, I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it.’
Mr Martin, who was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor (Comedy) at this year’s awards for his work on the series, rose to fame in the 60s for his writing work on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. He then moved on to being a host on Saturday Night Live.
After retiring from stand-up comedies, the actor appeared on the big screen in the 80s, starring in world-renowned films including Three Amigos, Planes, Trains And Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, L.A. Story, Father Of The Bride, Pink Panther and Cheaper By The Dozen.

Throughout his career, he was awarded five Grammys, an Emmy, and was given the Honorary Academy Award in 2013. This means that he only needs to score a Tony to achieve the coveted ‘EGOT’ status (entertainers with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award).
The star opted to lay low in the 2010s, where he only featured in a few obscure projects, before making his way back to stardom. He was cast in Father Of The Bride Part 3(ish) in 2020 and Only Murders in The Building, which was released last year.
When it comes to his personal life, the former comedian became a father to his first child at the age of 67, welcoming his lovely daughter Mary into the world with his wife Anne Stringfield.
While he did suggest reaching the end of his career, the celebrity clarified that he will not be closing the door completely.
‘My wife keeps saying, “You always say that you’re going to retire and then you come up with something”. I’m really not interested in retiring… I’m not. But I would just like to work a little less. Maybe.’ he said.
