Coles refunds customers after a massive pricing blunder—are you eligible?

With the rising cost of living putting pressure on household budgets, many Aussie shoppers rely on grocery promotions to score a good deal.

However, as Coles customers recently found out, these sales aren't always applied as planned.

Coles has recently come under fire for a series of pricing errors that affected thousands of customers.

The supermarket giant has since issued an apology and is working to refund those who were overcharged for items that were supposed to be on sale.

In a recent promotion, Coles mistakenly increased the price of 20 popular items, both in-store and online.

The error was not due to a system glitch or a technical issue but rather a human error where the ticket price was incorrectly increased before the end of the promotional period.

'We know cost of living is the biggest focus for so many of our customers,' a Coles spokesperson said.

'We sincerely apologise to our customers for this mistake, and we are working quickly to make it right.'

Coles has taken responsibility for the error and is actively working to rectify the situation. The supermarket giant has apologised to affected customers via email and explained the refund process.

'As a result of this error, we are refunding the full cost of the items to customers,' the Coles spokesperson added.

'Coles has processed refunds for customers who used their Flybuys card or purchased through Coles Online.'

For those who purchased the affected items in-store, Coles is asking customers to visit their service desk with a receipt for a full refund.

This is a significant move by the supermarket, demonstrating their commitment to customer satisfaction and trust.

In addition to the refunds, Coles is planning to put the affected products back on promotion.

'Eight are currently back at a reduced price, and we are making arrangements to place the remaining 12 on promotion for our customers,' the spokeswoman said.

Customers who were affected by the pricing error received an email explaining that refunds would be issued to their Flybuys accounts.

The email read: 'We have identified that you purchased product(s) that were on promotion, and we did not charge you the promotional price.'

'We sincerely apologise for the mistake we have made, and we have refunded the full cost of the product(s) to your Flybuys card. '

'We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.'

So the human error was a ticketing issue? How does that happen when the barcode determines the item price, as dictated by a central database, not what is on a physical printed ticket.

Proof you ask? A few weeks ago, I purchased an item with a ticketed price of $7.10 but scanned at $4.95. Some exotic Oriental sauce. No complaints with that!

I don’t think so! Goods left at the end of aisles are left unproved leaving customers to think they are on (or still on) special! A deliberate move as is the one reported here.
