Coles launches its own brand of “game-changing”, eco-friendly coffee pods — now available for $5!

There's no denying that we as a nation love our morning cuppa!
The coffee culture in Australia is thriving, with retailers seeing a surge in sales of coffee products over the past two years despite pandemic restrictions.
Speaking of lockdowns, it can't be denied that the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the coffee-drinking habits of Australians, with many opting for at-home coffee options.
In fact, supermarket retailer Coles reported that it has seen a spike in sales of coffee pods and sachet coffee, with increases of 30 per cent and 20 per cent in sales respectively.
And because of this, Coles decided to launch its own brand of compostable coffee pods, making it the first major Aussie retailer to do so.

Coles general manager of grocery Leanne White said that the "new" coffee habits of Australians inspired the company to make its own coffee product that not only satisfies our daily dose of caffeine but is also eco-friendly.
She said: “We know how much Australians love drinking quality coffee and the pandemic really has changed the way we drink our coffee.”
Made from bio-sourced cellulose and vegetable oils, the new Coles Urban Coffee Culture Organic home compostable pods are said to decompose at the same rate as an orange peel, allowing its consumers to contribute to eco-sustainability while enjoying a delicious cuppa.
Consumers can use the $5 coffee pods — which come in a pack of 10 — in machines designed for Nespresso-style pods.
It should also be noted that the product is certified by the Australasian Bioplastics Association.

Ms White said: “We are always looking for ways to reduce problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic from Coles Own Brand products, and offering a home compostable coffee pods option is one way of doing it.”
