Waste of time posting articles like this as the chances of finding these sort of things whilst in the supermaeket would be like winning lotto- very rare indeed, unfortunately me thinks! But good luck to those that are lucky enough, I'm happy for them

I’m over hearing about markdowns! I think it’s great shoppers get a bargain but if you’re not there at that time to cash in you miss out….so you’ll paying double/triple for your goods. What a bummer rub it in!
Yes, I cant help wondering whether these "customers" "fans" "users" etc are actually paid by the supermarkets to post this sort of stuff to bring the customers in to the store!

For me, it's obvious to ask 'How is this even possible?" I then the other obvious comes to me, is in-side employee theft. All they have to do is to tell family members when to be there and have extras put aside at the back, exactly like the lobsters, prawns and tell customers it's Sold Out. The customers see empty shelves and told Sold Out. The store starts to empty out and the relatives come later at night which means less customers. They also have packed the lobsters & prawns with the sale price and ready to just hand over to relative/flat mates, friends. They also gather a number of cheeses, and place out back and place there just prior to relatives picking them up and putting them just there for the people they know to collect and into their trolley. You name it, even the meats.

I hope the stores investigate and do security camera checks as well on their staff. When it comes to theft, there are people that will try anything. Try and slip through the web and the employment where they have access to easy theft. Many times it's the employees that steal from their employers, even family members breaking into the family homes or walking into the bedroom and stealing those rings. Family heirlooms.

Why do you keep referring to them as lobsters. We have crayfish in Australia, not lobsters. They are two totally different creatures.

MindyMac,................. thats some wild accusations you have there!

Do you have proof that thats happening?

If you do, send your evidence and pictures to the Head Office, ask them to investigate?

if you have no proof, STOP spreading untruths, please?

Mark downs are done when the product is near it's advertised expiry date!! The closer the date, the higher the discount!

It does not mean the food is "off", it can still be used several days longer, if kept refrigerated, or frozen.

Also, irrespective who the staff member is, they do not have the authority to price down, or hold the
products for family or friends!! This is staff instant dismissal!!

(are they YOUR family members and friends doing this unsavory practice?)

Concerning the time of the markdowns, these are done several times a day, mid morning, mid afternoon, and sometimes, prior to store closing times!! Higher discounts are done at this time.

If you want the discounts yourself, you should be in the stores around these times.

PS I have been involved in this industry for many years, and therefore know the store's policies in this matter,

I won't buy seafood that's not Australian farmed, and invariably the cheaper offers aren't. My local Woolworths had Brazilian lobsters with tails around 6" (babies, that should be left to grow another 6 months) priced at $6 recently. With no idea what the food-for-consumption regulations are over there, or what's in the water where the crustaceans are grown, I'm happy to pay more for the local product.
