Coles and Woolworths announce slashed prices on lobsters ahead of the holidays
There's no denying that it can get quite stressful whenever we report about price hikes on some Christmas staples ahead of the holidays. But, for the folks out there who love serving seafood on your Christmas dinner tables (or those who just love seafood in general), we've got great news for you!
Supermarkets Coles and Woolworths have recently announced price drops for their rock lobsters ahead of Christmas.
Coles, which originally sold Western Australian Rock Lobsters for $27 each in November, started selling the seafood item for just $22 from Wednesday, December 22.

Coles' move prompted its rival, Woolworths, to also slash the price of its WA Rock Lobsters, selling them at $22 each as well.
Woolworths' recent data predicted that customers across Australia will buy more than than 100 tonnes of the lobsters across the three weeks of Christmas, compared to last year where 70 tonnes of the popular seafood were purchased.
Woolworths’ Commercial Director for Meat and Seafood Tim Dudding said: “We’ve continued to offer Rock Lobster through the year and have nearly doubled our order this Christmas, as customers look to support local Australian producers and make what’s traditionally a delicacy more accessible.”

Meanwhile, Coles said that customers are buying more than 70 per cent more seafood in December compared to the other months of the year, accounting for a whopping 40 per cent of its annual lobster sales.
Aside from lobsters, prawns are also high in demand, with shoppers expected to nab the seafood and buy 10 times as many as they would in a normal week.
Coles’ general manager for Bakery, Deli, and Seafood Andy Mossop said: “We are delighted to be able to make great quality and responsibly sourced Australian seafood like WA Rock Lobsters more affordable so more Australians can treat themselves this Christmas Day.”
“Alongside our customers’ love for lobsters, our data has also revealed that prawns are our customers’ third-favourite Christmas food from Coles.”
Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-Operative CEO Matt Rutter said that they are delighted with Aussies “renewed love affair” with lobsters.
“We’re excited to be working with Woolworths to ensure more Australians can access sustainable, healthy, premium WA Rock Lobsters at affordable prices this holiday season,” he said.
