Remember hopping on the red rattler to Coles’ Cafeteria, dressed up and ready for a delicious lunch? That pie with sauce, and choosing between red or green jelly? Those trips were unforgettable! What was your favourite Coles’ Cafeteria memory? Share it here!

We lived only a few miles from Melbourne, but my best memories were getting a tram to the city with mum and finishing up at Coles cafe for lunch. Excited to be lining up and getting a hot pie and sauce for lunch.. Great memories..

We used to go to the Coles Cafeteria in Hurstville every school holidays as part of a day out to buy new clothes. I used to have a pie, chips and peas with gravy and a chocolate milk shake. I miss the simpleness of this which we do not have today. The picture brings back happy memories of my childhood back in the 60s. We also went with our grandparents into the city. There was something special and memorable about these outings. The food courts in the shopping centres today are just not the same.

you make me hungry LOL. Maybe I should go and get brekky. I can actually go back to the late 40's and 50's when we ate properly instead of the garbage they serve in the middle of an empty plate. I now either have LitenEasy or cook my own.

Yes, I definitely remember the Coles cafeteria. I used to go there in school holidays when I was a little kid with my mum. She would do the shopping downstairs in Coles and then we would go up the stairs to the Coles cafeteria.
I would order raisin toast, jelly and a lime spider.
It always tasted so much better from the Coles cafeteria.

I would go on a regular basis with my mother-in-law and I would always get the same thing and that was the fish burger, a long bread roll with a battered fish fillet and coleslaw on the bun with a little mayo, my mother-in-law always got that as well with her cup of tea and I had coffee.

Coles Cafeteria used to do a roast once a week. They were a real treat. The milk shakes were wonderful and so cold and thick it was difficult to drink it through the paper straw. I worked in one when I lived in Brisbane I had the job of clearing the and cleaning the tables. The staff were able to get a free dessert with our meals. I loved the pie and peas and mash potatoes with the lovely thick gravy. Ahh the memories. :coffee:

and milk shakes had ICECREAM in them. Now I find what they call "milkshake" is only watered down milk and a bit of topping.

I found these eateries such as Coles cafeterias to be noisier than a Chinese fish market.

I don't know the quality of the food as I never ate at one!
The quality in those days was great and there is something wonderful about being deaf.... you can take your hearing aids out and get blessed silence.

Always had lunch at coles cafeteria when we went into the city for what we called “special shopping” for clothes shoes etc. in the 1960 to 70’s .There was not the variety of suburban shopping centres that we have now. Always remember it being very noisy, with clatter of plates, cutlery and people talking.

they were the days when we had crockery plates and metal cutlery. Today you get paper bags or plates and wooden cutlery. BORING.
