Cleaning expert shares tips to successfully ward off pests

Ah, pests. Is there anything worse?

Every homeowner dreads having to deal with mice, flies, and ants around the home. And no matter how hard you try to keep your home clean, it seems like nothing is working.

Fortunately, cleaning experts like Nicole Jaques have tips and tricks that can help us keep these pesky critters away!

Nicole Jaques, a home organisation and cleaning expert, shared a video online giving tips and tricks for keeping pests away naturally.

For repelling ants, Jaques recommended using cinnamon oil to remove them from kitchen counters. Cinnamon oil contains cinnamaldehyde, which disrupts the bugs’ scent trail and prevents them from returning.

She also suggested using cinnamon sticks, cloves, and peppermint oil to repel mice, as the strong scents irritate their respiratory systems.

Cinnamon sticks can also repel spiders that tend to make nests in the corners of bookshelves and walls.

Jaques also recommended wine corks when it comes to pesky fruit flies. The tannins in the cork have a strong scent to the flies, so they won’t be flying around the fruits on your counter.

In the comments section of her video, Jaques shared more tips on tackling a few more specific pests.

She said we could scatter coffee grounds, boric acid, or bicarb soda around the house to ward off water bugs.

To prevent mosquito bites during summer, she suggested covering your body with some vanilla extract and sprinkling some peppermint soap shavings around the outside of your home to keep them away.

Users have found Jaques’s tips impressive.

'These tips have worked wonders,' one commented.

‘She’s one to follow,’ another stressed.

While a third was all gratitude: ‘Thank you for your tips!’

Other users suggested using peppermint oil and water to repel pests. Not only do these solutions effectively get rid of the bugs, but they’ll also leave your home smelling nice and fresh.
