Chupa Chups unveils an ICE CREAM VERSION of its crowd-favourite flavour - “I’m SO excited for this!”

In 1958, one man changed the lolly game in Australia forever. He bought the rights to sell the now-famous Chupa Chups (Spanish for ‘suck suck’ and pronounced ‘choo-pah, choop’) lollipops in Australia from entrepreneur Enric Bernat, but initially had no idea how to launch the product. Then, while he was watching a television series on Channel 10, he noticed the main character replacing cigarettes with lollipops to combat his smoking addiction and had a ‘lightbulb moment’.

The following day, he busted down the doors of the station with the intent of introducing the sweets to the station manager – and the rest was history. To this day, Chupa Chups remain one of the top-selling treats in Australia.

And now they might take the chilled lolly market by storm as they recently unveiled an ice cream version of their best-selling flavour, Strawberry & Cream, and everyone’s ecstatic!

Hello, sweet tooths. These are coming for you! Image Credit: Tasty

The mouthwatering strawberry and vanilla ice cream swirl is scooped into a waffle cone and sold in a pack of four for $8.50. To make things even more exciting, the frozen treats are topped with a sweet strawberry sauce along with chunks of crushed candy.

The ice cream packs will be distributed by Bulla Dairy Foods, one of Australia’s oldest family dairy companies, with a guarantee that each product will be made with fresh local milk and cream.

Many are thrilled to get their hands on the newly launched treats.

“I'm so excited for this,” wrote one woman. “I'm going straight to the ice cream aisle during my next trip to Woolies.”

“My kids are going to eat me out and about with this,” said another. “But at least it looks delicious!”

But not everyone is pleased with Chupa Chups’ new twist on the iconic flavour.

“They should stick to lollipops.” one person shared.

“It's really not like we needed another strawberries and cream flavoured ice cream,” argued another. “'It would be news if they had a new flavour.”

A third complained, “Why are candy companies coming out with new ways to rot our teeth faster?”

The Chupa Chups Strawberry and Cream 4-packs are available now in independent grocers and in Woolworths starting May 2.

I for one will not be buying them, $8.50 for 4 is a joke. I had to read it twice to make sure I got it right. Where is the justification for these prices? So many of these companies are going to price themselves right out of the market. I didn't just get an extra $20 on my pension to waste almost half of it on 4 ice creams.

Lovely. It's about time there were some more berry flavoured ice creams around. Everything is either chocolate, salted caramel or cookie dough. What happened to plain strawberry icecream or good old raspberry ripple. I find the others too rich so end up with plain old vanilla instead. Bring back the lovely fruit flavours.

Chupa chups don't need to make ice cream.
I'd like the candy cane flavour to be available all year round.
