Chocolat star's latest health confession: 'I will walk into something or fall over'

A major health update has left fans and the public deeply concerned.

What was once a minor challenge has now turned into a significant issue, impacting daily life in ways no one anticipated.

This candid reflection on the situation is both surprising and heartbreaking.

Dame Judi Dench, the acclaimed British actress, shared a heartbreaking update about her health, revealing that she could no longer leave her house alone due to her deteriorating eyesight.

At 90, Dench has been living with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) since 2012, a condition that has gradually affected her vision.

In an emotional interview, she explained that she always needed someone by her side when leaving the house.

‘I have to [have someone] now because I can’t see,’ Dench admitted.

‘I will walk into something or fall over,’ she added.

Despite her struggles, Dench confessed that she still feels nervous before attending events.

‘I’m always nervous before going to something. I have no idea why. I’m not good at that at all. Not at all. Nor would I be now,’ Dench said.

Her determination to carry on, however, was clear.

‘And fortunately, I don’t have to be now because I pretend to have no eyesight,’ Dench shared.

Though her vision has been greatly affected, Dench remains strong and committed to working.

‘I can’t see on a film set anymore,’ she shared.

‘And I can’t see to read. So I can’t see much,’ Dench said.

Nevertheless, she continues to push forward, stating: ‘But, you know, you just deal with it. Get on.’

Dench’s career spans decades, with a remarkable legacy of 120 on-screen productions.

She is renowned for her incredible performances, including roles in Chocolat, Notes on a Scandal, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Philomena, and Iris.

The Oscar-winning actress was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love (1998) and has been nominated for the prestigious award eight times.

Dench’s impressive theatre work earned her seven Laurence Olivier Awards and eight nominations.

She was also recognised with ten BAFTA Awards, including Best Actress in A Fine Romance (1981), where she starred alongside her late husband, Michael Williams, who passed away in 2001.

In 2022, Dench made her final screen appearance in Spirited, a movie streaming on AppleTV+.
