My family were well spaced out, two siblings were born before the war, then the next 3 of us came along. My closest in age sister is 4 yrs. older than me & my brother is 8 yrs. younger, so my sister & I generally had no one else to play with, which made for a rather lonely childhood. We also lived on a farm so had to catch a bus to school, which was an ordeal at times, as the bus constantly broke down. It would have been so much easier if mum had been able to drive. Life was a little easier for my brother as a family with children his age, came to work on the farm. We did learn to be resilient & are all prolific readers, I still love to curl up with a book. My brother & sister are still rather quiet & reserved, whereas I’ll talk to anyone. I don’t mind my own company but could never move back to a country area. A reasonably sized country town, with lots of shops might be okay, but a city is much better. I do miss my two oldest siblings so much, the three of us were so alike, even with 11 & 13 years between us.
