Chef Gordon Ramsay goes viral after starting a ‘Gen Z cooking class’ on TikTok

Almost everyone knows who Gordon Ramsay is. The celebrity chef is well-known for his fiery temper and his no-nonsense attitude when it comes to preparing food in the kitchen.

But what many of his fans might not know is that the Michelin-star chef is quite the cooking teacher as well – which he proved recently after old footage of him sharing some of his most useful tips was given new life on TikTok.

The tips were from a segment from Wired in 2017, where the British TV chef answered common cooking questions. The video, which has been viewed more than 30 million times on YouTube can be found here:

Although it’s been five years since the original segment was posted, the video is regaining popularity – this time with the younger generation.

A more condensed version of the clip was posted on Wired’s official TikTok account. The video has since garnered 4.4 million views.

The celebrity chef answered questions from grating mozzarella cheese to mincing garlic and skimming the fat off stock in the shorter version.

Gordon first demonstrated how to mince garlic without using a press. He pulled out his chef's knife and laid the flat side of the blade over the clove while holding onto its handle firmly with his other hand...before making a fist with his free hand and slamming it onto said blade!

This effectively crushed garlic cloves so they could be chopped up easily. He also said to add salt on top because it stops the garlic from ‘oozing out’ onto the board. We’ll take note of that, chef!

He went on to offer advice to a Twitter user whose scrambled eggs were always watery - another problem we're sure many people can relate to!

He said that seasoning eggs before they are cooked will turn them grey. Instead, he suggests seasoning them after they’re cooked. Chef Gordon advised cracking the eggs and adding butter directly onto the saucepan, and continuing stirring the mixture with a spatula for the perfect scrambled eggs.

The celebrity chef also offered advice on properly straining chicken stock. Gordon said that skimming the fat through a cloth makes the stock ‘cloudy’.

‘The best thing to do [for] skimming a stock is to let it set and put a couple of ice cubes on top, and it will bring the fat up,’ he shared. Now, that’s solid advice!

Finally, Chef Gordon shared a trick for making crème brûlée without a blowtorch: ‘Take an old spoon that you don't use, put it on the gas flame, get it really nice and hot, and stick that lightly over the sugar.’

He said this method will caramelise the sugar instantly.

Hopefully he will teach David & Victoria Beckhams son not only how to actually cook but also that he is NOT qualified to refer to himself as a 'chef'.
