Cheeky Cockatoo

Cockatoos are one of those things we tend to take for granted since they’re one of those birds you see flying around fairly often. But when you think about it, they’re in every way just as Aussie as, say, animals like ‘roos and koalas!

Take this one, for example, named Percy Buttons, whose picture was taken sometime in 1958. According to the State Library of Western Australia, the photographer had cheeky little Percy as a pet. The bird was also very fond of a certain item, which you can see him nibbling at.

Let’s play a game, members: what do you think it is? Tell us here!

And if you have other memories you’d like to share with us too, post them here on our Nostalgia/Yesterday’s Australia forum!

Are you ready for the reveal, members? Drum roll, pleeeeaaasseeee....

It's a toothbrush! According to the State Library of WA, cheeky little Percy loved stealing the toothbrushes of the photographer's kids. That's perhaps why this shot was taken --- to catch the bird in action  He looked like he was having such a lovely time though!

A fair number of you were right on the mark with this one! I hope you had fun guessing, members!
