Check your pantries: Urgent recall of well-known spices nationwide

A set of popular spices have been removed from supermarket shelves nationally. The recalled food products were previously sold at IGA supermarkets, independent food retailers, health food stores, and online retailers across the country.
The three recalled varieties of Herbie’s Spices were Raita Spice Blend, Black Salt, and Chaat Masala. The spices have best before markings from July 18, 2024, up until July 18, 2025.
Food Standards Australia explained that they determined the products contained the undeclared presence of peanuts and tree nuts.

According to Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia, ‘Australia has a relatively high prevalence of peanut allergy. Almost 3 per cent of children have a peanut allergy. Around 20 per cent grow out of their peanut allergy. But sometimes, peanut allergies do not appear until later in life.’
‘Any consumers who have a peanut or tree nut allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,’ Food Standards Australia warned.
‘They should not consume these products and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.’
Mayo Clinic stated on its website that peanut allergies can lead to life-threatening symptoms, stating: ‘Even tiny amounts of peanuts can cause a serious reaction, also known as anaphylaxis.’
