Channel Nine reveals revamp to flagship show as new co-host and presenters revealed

The television landscape is no stranger to change, and Nine's latest revamp of its Today show is a testament to the ever-evolving nature of morning programming.

In a significant shake-up, the network has confirmed a new co-host and a fresh team of presenters set to bring a new dynamic to the beloved morning show.

Sophie Walsh, a familiar face to the Nine audience, will join Clint Stanaway as co-host for Weekend Today.

This move sees Jayne Azzopardi transition to the weekday program as the Today news presenter, a position recently vacated by Brooke Boney.

Boney, who took on the role in January 2023, has embarked on an exciting new chapter to study at Oxford University.

Today's show lineup will also welcome Renee Bargh, known for her work on Extra and Channel[V], who will take over the entertainment news segment.

Lizzie Pearl, another seasoned reporter from Sydney, will present the news on Weekend Today, while Dan Anstey is set to become the new face of weather reporting.

The announcement of these changes follows an emotional period for the Today team, marked by heartfelt farewells and multiple departures.

Karl Stefanovic, a staple of the show, paid tribute to Brooke Boney during her last appearance, highlighting her work ethic, versatility, and immediate rapport with the public.

‘We love you and everything you represent, how hard you work,’ he said.

‘I think the last two weeks in the Olympics demonstrated how much range you have. How much immediate connection do you have with anyone you walk along the street with?’

Boney's departure was celebrated with flowers, cake, and 'goodies,' leaving her 'overwhelmed' and reflective of her journey from a housing commission upbringing to becoming the first Aboriginal woman to host a morning program full-time.

‘For someone like me, I grew up in housing commission, so this is really beyond my wildest dreams,’ she said.

Let us also point out that less and less people are tuning into mainstream TV. Two sides to every story, right? Unfortunately mainstream only provides us with one...

I don't understand why people have to even mention their "Housing Commission' upbringing Many of us had the same upbringing and we survived. Someone else has mentioned that a few times in his speeches. I am sure many others from those homes have excelled in life, but they don't need to use it as a feel sorry for me tool.

I don't care one bit. I gave up watching the commercial stations "Circus" that they pass off as news breakfast shows. I have been an ABC News Breakfast fan for 5 years. Not to say that they don't have their own issues, but when compared to the commercial offerings, IMO they are streaks ahead.
