Carrie Bickmore made a huge career announcement last week when she told the world that she is leaving Channel Ten's The Project after 13 years, sparking rumours about what her next move might be.
The veteran journalist explained that she wanted to spend more time at home with her family, but clarified that this doesn't mean she is stepping away from the limelight altogether.
‘I look forward to being able to help Chris out with the kids a bit more and yeah, I'm not leaving TV.’ she said.
Referencing the fact that her son Ollie was in the audience during the announcement, she continued: ‘My son sent me a message saying he wanted to come and see my retirement – honey, I'm not retiring. I'm just gonna move on to something different. I do not know what that is yet.’

Since then, speculation that Carrie will replace Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair after she announced her departure last month made the rounds. Some also theorised that she’s set to replace Allison Langdon on Today.
Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that Carrie will be a part of the morning show next year alongside Karl Stefanovic, while Allison would make ‘an elegant transition’ to A Current Affair.
‘It is the next, most obvious step for Carrie’ the source said. ‘As much as you'd like to say that she is not as nice as her on-screen persona, that's not the case.’
‘Everyone likes her. Viewers like her. She would bring a lot of positive energy to Today and, in terms of timing, it all makes sense.’
However, Nine's Director of Morning Television, Steven Burling, has since debunked the claims and gossip surrounding Carrie.
‘Virtually nothing is correct in this piece at all.’ he wrote on a Twitter post this Tuesday alongside a link to the article.

Carrie’s move to breakfast radio
The latest rumour about Carrie’s career is that she is heading for breakfast radio and will replace Hughesy, Ed and Erin, which is hosted by Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan, on 2Day FM in 2023.
TV industry veteran Rob McKnight touched on the topic during his TV Blackbox podcast on Wednesday, saying: ‘We need to consider... Carrie is earning, what, a million dollars for her afternoon radio show per year? The question is, is Carrie priming to take over the Sydney breakfast radio show?’
‘The current show’s rating is c**p. I have already heard rumours that she's being offered $2 million a year to do the Sydney radio show with Tommy Little… Television doesn't have the kind of money that radio does.’ he continued.
