Channel Nine’s Amelia Adams surprises Today viewers with hosting debut

Morning news and breakfast shows are an important part of many Aussies’ lives.

It is where we get our fill of important news stories.

Now, it might not strike you immediately, but when you think about it, the people who deliver the news on camera also matter in the sense that they have to be someone who you trust.

After all, you wouldn’t trust some random person down the road telling you what’s what, right?

That’s why when news shows change hosts, people notice.

Such is the experience of viewers of Channel Nine’s Today Show who were in for quite a surprise when they saw Amelia Adams alongside Karl Stefanovic.

The 39-year-old veteran reporter was filling in for Allison Langdon, who is currently on leave.

Amelia Adams recently made her return to Australia after having served as Channel Nine’s Europe and North America Senior International Correspondent.

Adams is noted for her award-winning coverage of the infamous January 6, 2021, Capitol Riots in the United States.

She is reportedly set to join 60 Minutes as a full-time reporter later this year.

Stefanovic wasted no time in giving Amelia a proper introduction, hailing her as ‘one of Australia’s all-time great correspondents’.

But in classic Stefanovic style, he couldn’t help but let loose words that had viewers on the edge of their seats!

‘From the pinnacles of reporting greatness, to working with Alex (Cullen) and I. It’s a long way down,’ he said.

Thankfully, Adams took the comment in stride and simply laughed Karl’s statement off.

Karl sure does know how to make a room collectively stop breathing!

Meanwhile, some could not help but place weight on Langdon’s absence. (Get a notepad and a pen, you’ll need it!)

You see, Adams’ appearance on Today happened amid swirling rumours that Langdon is being considered as a replacement for Tracy Grimshaw on A Current Affair.

Grimshaw shocked Australians when she made a sudden announcement of her retirement in September citing exhaustion from a 26-year career.

Now, executives of Channel Nine are allegedly eyeing Langdon as Grimshaw’s successor, according to TV Blackbox.

They were quick to stress, however, that no final decision has been made yet regarding A Current Affair.

At the same time, TV Blackbox says the network is also on the lookout for who will replace Langdon if she exits Today.

This brings us back to Adams who is apparently being considered as a replacement, along with Sarah Abo of 60 Minutes.

TV Blackbox adds some personalities within Channel Nine think the time is right for Adams, considering her successful career abroad.

And the icing on this rather confusing cake: some people within the network are apparently rethinking Adams’ assignment to 60 Minutes in favour of a potential Today show hosting role.
