CBR (as in Canberra, and... )
and...
actual, real, living people live here. You send all but 5 politicians "up the hill", and we take responsibility for those 5!
Canberrans (aka Ken Behrens ... look it up*) are used to having other people visit your Australian Capital Territory, and not quite understanding roundabouts and double/triple-lane roads in the central city AND the suburbs. Please, look confused, but drive sensible speeds, and we will surround you with our understanding [ahhh... avoid you, especially if you use the indicators/flashers before changing lanes.] {* https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08...-canberra-covid-19-hero-ken-behrens/100393472) Yes, we have a nightlife, suburbs, shopping centres, coffee (some of the best baristas in the world -- look it up), national institutions that you can visit for free (Parliament House, Australian War Memorial, High Court, National Portrait Gallery, Australian National Gallery, Museum of Australian Democracy aka Old Parliament House, Aboriginal Tent Embassy, National Mint, National Arboretum, National Rock Garden, Museum of Australia, Anzac Parade memorials, etc... Manuka Oval, Canberra Capitals [basketball], Canberra United FC, Canberra Cavalry [Aus Baseball League], Raiders, Brumbies, etc) and you can see kangaroos living wild in/near the edges of the suburbs, if you look up where to go.
So, I've already given you my short lesson in 'civics' as in how our nation is governed. But.....
PLEASE do NOT blame Canberra-people for your politicians and what they decide to do.
I have met 'my' three politicians (2 Senators and 1 Rep, of the 5 Canberra sends "up the hill") and I imagine that very few other Australians can say the same, as you in states elect 12 Senators and 1 Representative, so it may be harder for you to meet them all, but please try.
OK, so you get the idea that I have a deep affection for Canberra -- a lovely place to raise a family -- and we welcome visitors, especially if you do your homework. ;-)
Regards,
Peter
