Western Australia
canvas water bag

traveling around Australia with family of 6 in a old dodge with camping gear, huge army tent with poles piled high on the top of car us four kids in the back
mum cooking damper in the open fire to have with stew sleeping at night without a worry because dad was outside sleeping by the fire on the camp stretcher but my favorite was how fresh and cool the water was from the canvas water bag hanging on the front of car
not only did the air passing though cool; the water it also cooled the radiator
I have no idea how mum and dad did it they carried everything we needed and our ages were 2,5,7,9
best holiday ever

What a wonderful happy memory time of a bygone age .People today have no concept of that sort of family holiday, when making do and getting on with it was a way of life. :p

This is amazing Yvonne. I'm not sure if it's still possible, but do you think you could recreate the memory with your family?

my first husband and I travelled with the army around Australia many times, yes you could say i recreated with my kids
My brother sent me the old photos when I was telling him and I have passed on them my sister also my children and grand child had a great time seeing how much they looked like me when young

For me it was the 60's and 70's camping in a huge tent to me. Green canvas top and walls of white. Wooden poles holding it up with ropes and tent pegs. We four were young when last done, think about 5, 6, 10 and 11 and of courses our parents. Camp beds, one being a bunk bed, blankets and sheets, cooking equipment and another things were needed. The last few times were loaded up the half cabin cruiser and went to the sandy isles off Brisbane/Gold coast. These things can not be repeated as so many safety rules involved now. September 1974 we went to live on board our tri for a few
years after that it was camping in those nylon type tents , not as much fun or have the height of the canvas one. The canvas one was used at parties , hung over the hills host for support.
