Can't live without coffee? Here's how to get your caffeine fix from 7-Eleven and Coles for less

Coffee is a daily necessity for many people, so when the price of coffee goes up, it can be frustrating.

While the costs of staples are skyrocketing, many people resort to bargain hunting to score food and drinks at slashed prices. While you can make a coffee at home to save a few bucks, sometimes you just need that cafe-style goodness.

That's why it's not surprising that one man has gone viral after he shared a simple trick on how to save money on to-go coffee from 7-Eleven and Coles.

Queensland shopper Tab took to social media to reveal his 'discovery' about how you can score a higher volume of coffee at a cheaper price.

Sharing the tip on Facebook, Tab revealed that two cups of regular $1 coffee give you more coffee than the $3 'super' cup.

'Hack of the century! At 7-Eleven and Coles, you can buy two small coffees for a dollar each which equals the $3 large size,' he posted on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group.

'You have been ripped off, the $3 coffee isn't three times the amount of the $1 coffee.'

'So with the freebies as well at Coles you get a free coffee twice as quick.'

It should be noted that a regular coffee at 7-Eleven is 245 ml, a large for $2 is 385 ml, and a $3 super is 450 ml.

If we do the math, the cheapest way to get a large cup of coffee is to buy two regular coffees, which equal 490ml and cost $2.

Tab also noted that the same principle can be applied to Coles Express to-go coffee, emphasising that you can score more savings if you're a member of its loyalty program.

Many people immediately branded the tip as 'clever' and 'genius' in their comments on the post.

However, several coffee connoisseurs claimed that the $3 cup comes with an additional shot of coffee, so those looking for an extremely potent pick-me-up might want to still choose the super cup.

One user explained: '$1 coffee has one shot of coffee while the $3 cup has 3 shots. So, two times of $1 cup is only 2 shots but extra milk.'

Meanwhile, a 7-Eleven representative confirmed that the prices of to-go coffee at its stores are 'based on industry standard cup sizes.'

The spokesperson said: '7-Eleven’s freshly ground coffee is outstanding value for customers and the simple $1, $2, $3 price points are based around industry standard cup sizes.'

'Depending on the product the customer selects, there are different ratios of coffee, hot milk, and milk foam (proportionately more for each cup size), and of course, the foam does settle over time, or when being re-poured as in this example.'

The representative also confirmed the claim of the shopper, saying that the retailer introduced different sizes for the coffee cups because of customer demand.

'One of the reasons we introduced other sizes is because our customers told us they wanted the convenience of a range of sizes to choose from,' they continued.

'But customers are welcome to super-size the value they get from our coffee by purchasing 3 $1 coffees instead of the $3 size.'

'We’d also encourage the filmmakers, and all our customers, to use our in-store cup recycling units and rescue their cups from ending up in landfill.'

We're self-professed coffee lovers here at the SDC so we're looking forward to trying this trick ourselves.

Coffee Maniac ☕
Looking for value,I find it very hard to go past the Aldi Coffee Machine which is well priced at $79.00 and capsules are 68cents ,the variety of the capsules are varied from hot chocolate to Irish coffee and everything in between. ENJOY 😉

Ok if your coffee buds will tolerate cheap & nasty 7/11 or Coles petroleum station coffees!! No thanks I’d rather have fewer ‘real’ coffees!!

Sounds like a winning idea. Wonder if something similar applies to Dome coffee in take-a- way cups?
