Can this $16 Kmart vacuum keep your car spotless?

Many know how difficult it can be to keep a car clean—with constant use, the lack of indoor parking, and polluted highways, one can expect grime to build up quickly.

Caring for your car can also cost a fortune. Professional car washes often don’t last and do little to help conceal the mess inside the car. So, what can you do?

Well, look no further than this Wet and Dry Vacuum Cleaner from Kmart, which you can get for $16!

When one mum spotted this vacuum with a 4.1-star rating online , she was not sure what to expect.

After paying the $10 delivery fee (as she bought the item online), the vacuum landed at her door after four working days. It was then that she noticed her car was also in serious need of a good clean.

When reviewing the vacuum, she noted that it was finished in glossy black plastic with rose-gold accents, which made it look ‘fancy’. It came with a 4.2-metre cable and two attachments—a bristle brush and, for more precision, a flat nozzle. The vacuum can be plugged into a car’s 12-volt outlet (usually found in the glovebox).

To get the vacuum running, the user would have to start their car first. But beware! The vacuum tends to make quite a loud sound when it’s powered on.

So, how did this $16 vacuum fare in cleaning up the mess?

With all the noise the vacuum made, the mum expected strong suction (without the attachments) but ended up being slightly disappointed.

'With all that noise, I expected vortex-level suction but was disappointed to discover the vacuum had all the strength of a light breeze.'

'Still, it worked well to pick up larger dirt like sultanas, pieces of tissue and pebbles,' she added.

But when she attached the brush nozzle, the improvement was evident. The brush had loosened stubborn hair and the suction had greatly improved.

'The floor mats were sparkling after I was finished with the bristle nozzle,' the mum said.

Moving on to the precision nozzle, it reportedly worked well in collecting smaller pieces of grit and dirt, but was not as effective as the brush nozzle.

'I’d say it’s best suited to getting into narrow cracks between seats or behind car seats,' the mum said.

All in all, the mum gave a rating of three out of five stars due to its affordability and efficiency.

However, the mum assured that it was easily more effective than a vacuum she tested from a far more expensive and well-known brand.

Plus, the Kmart vacuum is compact enough to store in your car and does not need any batteries or external power sources to make it work.

Buyers on the Kmart website have left their reviews on the product with one saying: 'Absolutely the best thing I’ve purchased! I clean my whole car with this vacuum!'

Another added, 'Great for a quick clean of my car, it is easy to use…has a good length lead which reaches to the back seat area.'

'For the price point and the convenience it provides, I can't complain at all,' a third added.

And a fourth said: 'If you've got a massive puppy and your car is full of sand and dirt and pine cones, you'll probably need something a bit more gutsy. For regular levels of filth, this is a really great little vacuum. The additional tools are essential, so make sure you use them.'

Many years ago we purchased a normal sized vacuum and they threw in one of these hand-held vacuum. I could suck harder than it did. Promptly gave it to St Vinnies.

12vt, couldn't pull the skin of a custard. Plenty of drive thru carwash options that have monthly $50 was everyday if you like and industrial strength vacuums as part of the business.

I realised that when I read it, it may have been easier to say that it wouldn't suck the skin off a rice pruuding?
Coming from overseas I've never heard that saying until I came here and not used to it. We tend to revert to things we know I guess
