Who still remembers eating at the in-house cafeterias in Australia's major department stores? Before the fast-food chains took over, Coles, Woolworths, Myer, and DJs, among others, used to offer these delightful canteen-style eateries, creating a special treat for shoppers and families. They served tasty soups, hot dishes, delectable cold meats and salads, and tempting desserts. What was your favourite menu item from these cafeterias? Tell us here.

Always remember when one of us kids had an appointment in Melbourne it was always an exciting day. Coming from a small town ( Colac, Victoria ) the drive to Melbourne was about two and a half hours ( 1960's ) and the day always finished with lunch at the coles cafeteria in Bourke St..great memories from days gone by.
