Bunnings Australia alerts customers of security breach, with some personal information potentially accessed by third party sites
Bunnings Australia has issued an immediate alert to their customers after a massive customer data breach involving online booking app Flexbooker was discovered on Wednesday.

Personal information including the name and email address of customers who have used the Bunnings Drive and Collect service may have been accessed by a third party site.

The company also assured customers that other personal information — such as passwords, credit cards and mobile phone numbers — were not compromised during the data breach.

The alert email from Bunnings read: “We wanted to let you know that we have recently been made aware of a data security breach experienced by our third-party booking provider, Flexbooker.”

“We take the privacy and the protection of customer information very seriously and we sincerely regret that this has happened."

“Please be assured that passwords, credit card information and mobile numbers are not collected when using Flexbooker to make a booking with us, and we are confident that none of these categories of customer data have been compromised.“

Bunnings Australia also informed the public that they are currently working closely with Flexbooker to understand how the breach occurred and are keeping in touch with customers who may have possibly been affected.

A spokesperson said: “While no action is required of you in response to this issue, as a precaution, we encourage our customers to be cautious of any unusual activity in their email accounts and to regularly change passwords to enhance online safety.”

It should also be noted that on December 23, Flexbooker announced a massive breach of their system, with a third party site possibly accessing information from 3.7 million users.

The software company's announcement read: “We truly apologise for the inconvenience this is causing, and want to let you know that this is being handled “all hands on deck” as the only priority for the company until we can resolve it.”

However, Flexbooker announced that they had resolved the issue eight hours after they posted their first announcement.
