An intended joke issued in the public arena must be able to be "got" by all.

The SDC should peer review all submitted "jokes" prior to publication to ensure that all readers will get the joke; and also edit US-centric words and replace them with suitable Aussie equivalents.

Is Salt Lake City somehow relevant to the joke?

If not, then replace with an Aussie city.
Are you kidding now that's funny

To all those who didn’t ‘get the joke’ - the word asphalt is so badly pronounced here in Australia. It is meant to be pronounced ‘ass-fault’ NOT ‘ash-felt’. That’s probably why you didn’t ‘get the joke’. And it had nothing to do with the pilot running over a snake and the plane slipping on it. However, I could not stop laughing at some of your hilarious assumptions of the meaning of the joke.

Bumpy Landing

Just after a very hard landing in Salt Lake City.
The flight attendant came on the intercom and said,
'That was quite a bump, and I know what y'all are thinking.
I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault,
it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendant's fault,
it was the asphalt.'

Very, very good Skipton. Had tears coming down my cheeks reading some of the guesses here.

Salt Lake City has nothing to do with this joke so replacing it with an Aussie city will not make any difference. Read all the way down through the replies and somewhere along the line you will get the joke.

Please advise what is the joke.

PS My reply about the plane slipping on a snake wasn't meant to be taken seriously

Dougal, you give the word obtuse a whole new depth of meaning.
