As much as we love Christmas, one thing we don't love is how hot it can be during the festive season!
Since we Aussies celebrate Christmas in summer, it's just not practical to set up a real fireplace in our homes. But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy all the cosy ambience that comes with having a fireplace.
That's why we're so excited about this super simple (and very affordable) DIY project shared by one resourceful Aussie mum. With just a few common household items, you can create your own charming cardboard Christmas 'fireplace' that is perfect for all your holiday decorations!
One mum stumbled upon a DIY Christmas decor idea online and decided to recreate it in her home so she could also enjoy the magic of having her a fireplace in her home for the holidays.
Sharing her project on the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook group, the mum said that all you need are the following materials:
Brick wall wrap from Kmart (Note: This is currently unavailable)
Garland
Duct tape
Battery warm white lights from Kmart (Any string lights you have at hand will work as well)
Cardboard (amount depends on how big you want your ‘fireplace’ to be)
The first thing she did was to tape cardboard together to resemble a fireplace as in the picture below, advising that you should measure the dimensions before cutting.
After that, she continued with the Kmart Brick Wall wrap.
She placed the brick wall wrap and secured it using duct tape.
Finally, she added a festivegarland and some warm white lights on top of the whole construction.
The tip has gained traction on social media, garnering more than 1,500 reactions from users who were stunned by the gorgeous Christmas decor.
'I love this! This is the best post I've ever seen on Facebook!' one person raved.
Some suggested that the mum should try selling them, with one person asking: 'Are you taking pre-orders yet?
Meanwhile, several users said that they are also doing a similar project.
One woman shared: 'Ohhh I love this, I started making my own cardboard fireplace just yesterday. So much fun.'
Unfortunately, others brought up that the brick wall wrap that the mum used to recreate the Kmart look is currently out of stock.
One user said that one of the best alternatives would be the 'cream brick contact paper from Bunnings'.
