Brick barbie

Do you remember when brick BBQs were all the rage? These days, they've largely been replaced by sleek stainless steel outdoor sets, but there was something truly special about cooking meat on a brick BBQ. It was a completely different experience, filled with charm and a sense of tradition.

Ah, the good old Aussie BBQs. They were more than just a way to cook food—they were a cornerstone of social gatherings, bringing friends and family together. So many memories were made around those brick BBQs: the sizzling sound of meat on the grill, the smoky aroma filling the air, and the laughter and stories shared.

Dad had one built in the early 70's. Had a deep fryer built in it also and dad used to make chips or even banana fritters in it. We used to have a lot of back yard gatherings/parties.

Todays BBQs are similar to cooking on the stove inside. Everything tastes the same. My dad built one in Melbourne and used wood as the fuel. The steaks had a totally better taste due to the smoke. Loved it!!

Many years ago .... on a gas pipeline under construction, there was a Sunday BBQ and the workers from another country gathered up all the treated CCA pine pole offcuts and used them for firewood. Many got sick, luckily no-one died.
