BMW and RAM issue urgent recall over multiple models due to safety risk

Safety is paramount, especially when it comes to the vehicles we trust to carry us and our loved ones from point A to point B.

That's why it's crucial to stay informed about any recalls that could affect the reliability and safety of our cars. For those of you driving a BMW or RAM, this message is particularly urgent.

BMW has issued a significant recall affecting more than 13,000 vehicles across some of its most popular model lines.

‘Due to a manufacturing defect, liquid may enter the electrical water pump connectors,’ the company says in its recall notice.

‘This could cause an electrical short circuit leading to a vehicle fire.’

‘A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders and/or damage to property.’

The models in question span production years from 2011 to 2018, and the recall affects a total of 13,588 vehicles.

If you're wondering whether your BMW is affected by this recall, it's essential to check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list provided by BMW.

If you do find that your BMW is affected by this recall, the company urges you to take immediate action.

Contact your nearest BMW dealership to schedule an appointment. During this appointment, the plug connector will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced. This will be done free of charge.

For those who may have additional questions or need further assistance, BMW Australia has set up a recall hotline at 1800 243 675.

In similar news, RAM has issued a recall for a selection of its 1500, 2500, and 3500 models due to a manufacturing defect that could have serious safety implications.

‘Due to a manufacturing defect, the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) may have not been welded to the required specifications,’ the carmaker said in its recall notice.

‘As a result, the SCCM could fail to send an airbag deployment signal to the Occupant Restraint Controller preventing the driver’s airbag from deploying.’

‘In the event of an accident, the airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants,’ it added.

The recall affects 137 vehicles built between 2023 and 2024. If you're concerned that your vehicle might be one of those affected, it's important to check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list provided.

The specific RAM 1500 model impacted by the recall is the outgoing DS-generation model, which is currently in runout in Australia.

If you happen to own one of these models or any of the affected 2500 or 3500 models, RAM has stated that you will be contacted to schedule an appointment with your preferred dealer.

During this appointment, the SCCM will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced free of charge.

Manufacturers don't do quality control it costs too much and takes up too much time. We, the consumers, are the quality controllers, if something breaks or goes wrong they are "happy" to give a replacement.

It’d be interesting to know where you get your information that manufacturers in the automotive industry “don't do quality control…”.

If automotive manufacturers don’t have any quality control, then why are there recalls before the owners know about it?

Think about it...‘Due to a manufacturing defect, liquid may enter the electrical water pump connectors,’ the company says in its recall notice.
This isn't something an owner would pick up, they had 13000 vehicles exit the factory before they realised there was this issue.
I was generalising, perhaps I should have been more specific. Your last sentence maybe should have "do" instead of "don't".
Apologies for being misleading.
